What motor would you recommend for a 2006 Stratos 294 Pro XL? Blew my motor up this summer and would like some opinions on the best choice. I have an idea myself, but it never hurts to hear other opinions.

I have a E-tec 200 HO and couldn't be happier![]()

The SHO is what I was leaning towards, or hoping I could afford. Appearently I have been told there is a waiting list to get one of these. Has anybody else been told this?
Yammie. put you a 200 Sho or find a dealer trying to get rid of the last of the 200 HPDI's
Merc will have the best fuel economy, but a hydro tech Yamaha would be fun to play with if I was in your position.

I would suggest a Mercury Pro XS for the simple fact that you live in Wisconsin. With Mercury being built in Fond du Lac, there are more choices for service (not that you will need it!). At least this is what I learned. It is hard to find someone to work on an Evinrude unless I am willing to drive. However ther are plenty of Mercury places within a 10 mile radius from me. When the time comes I am pretty sure that is what I will be doing!
That's a good point. Any place you recommend near southern WI that I should talk to about purchasing a new motor? Currently, I am considering the PRO XS or the SHO, neither of which I can afford but I will make it work.
Not sure where you live, but again, I would think that any dealer close to you is your best bet. This way when you have problems, you can go to them. However, if the dealer closest has a bad rep, then I would look elsewhere. Where are you currently at? I live in Fond du Lac and could recommend a few places around here if you like.
I live in Janesville. Any suggestions? I am fairly new to Wisconsin, that's why any advice would be helpful.
Sorry, but I have no first hand experience with any dealers in that area. I know that Rock River Marina in Edgerton, which is just north of Janesville, has a good reputation. But again, I have not used them and is only from what I have heard from others. If you are in no hurry and can wait, there will be boat shows in January - usually one in Milwaukee and one in Madison. (These are the ones I have attended.) This might give you a better feel for some of the dealers in the area. However, that will not help if you are looking to get on the water this year yet! Good luck and let us know what you decide!
Boy thats to bad you wont consider an ETEC I could have saved you a couple grand and know of several dealers in that area that would be more than happy to work on it......if it ever needed it!
Thanks, but the thing is my motor has been through three power heads with less than 80 hrs on the motor, and no Evinrude technician can figure out the problem. Evinrude was willing to give me $2,000 off an $8,000 fix, but again you can imagine my concern at throwing more money at this motor. Therefore, I am going to buy a new one (SHO), since I have no desire to keep losing more money.
the sho would be sick on a 294!!!![]()
If I was on my 4th powerhead on a 4 year old motor they would have to find a way to cover that $8K themselves. I would think the warranty should start over with each new one
How about a 6 month warranty, pointless. SHO it is.
