2004 285 Pro XL DC Set Up Help Needed

    Hey Guys,

I have a 2004 285 ProXL DC with a Johnson 150. I'm getting about 54-55 mph (on the GPS) at 5250-5300 rpm. RPM's seem a little low. No jackplate and a 24 Raker...I think? Good water pressure 25-30 psi...right? Would like to get 60-62 out of this boat. Any advice? Different prop, add a jackplate 6"? Where should the propshaft be in relation to the pad? Running 55mph @ 5300 rpm I have it trimmed to just below middle. Any advice on that? I'm ready to receive all of you tips.

    Thanks,
    Andru

I would think at least a 6" jackplate and work it up from 3.5" till the water pressure drops into the mid teens and then back down a smidgen. Also want to keep the RPM below 6000. Preferable 57-5800. Last longer. Your prop should be about right too.

I had the exact same boat and motor. 2004 285 Pro XL dual console with the 150 Johnson. You really need a 6" plate. I was running a 25 Tempest prop. I had the motor up around 3" below pad. By myself I did see 65 a few times. With two and a load I was low 60's. Holeshot was amazing.

Thanks for the help. I figured that a 6" plate was in order. Any suggestions on what brand of jack plate for me? I still question what prop would be best. I heard both the 23 and 25 Tempest would be good choices??? I know the cost of the jack plate...but can anyone tell me what I should expect to pay to have it installed? Would love to hit 62mph by the end of the season!!

    Thanks Again

I had the same boat with a 150 V-Max turning a b&b 23P turbo or 25p Tempest. Top end went to the Tempest consistently 63 to 64 while holeshot and midrange went to the Turbo with a top end of 61 to 62. I did have a 6" slidemaster jackplate as well. A really nice set up and good riding boat!

I have the same exact model and year of boat that you have. I have a 2004 285 PXL Dual Console Boat with a 150hp johnson motor. I am getting 61.6 by myself and abour 58-59 with two guys and all of our gear. I have 24 pitch Raker prop. My RPM is about 5300. The recomended RPM range for the motor is 4500-5500 RPM's. I am not sure if you want to run your RPM's any higher than that. But i do have a 6 inch Slidemaster jackplate. The only difference I can see with your setup compared to mine is the jackplate. I would get a jackplate put on and go from there. I am not sure what the best Jackplate for this boat is seeing that mine came with one. If you ask around, I am sure some would be able to help you out further.

    I hope this Helps out.
