    ETEC RPM QUESTION

I am running a 2007 ETEC 225 HO and I have been trying props and prop heights to look for a balance in speed, handling, and holeshot.

This weekend I tried out a RakerII 28 and got more top end speed and seemingly better handling out of the boat but, definetly gave up hole shot. Plus it seems to take just a little longer to get it up to the top end.

I dropped from running about 55-5600 RPM using a Tempest 27 down to about 52-5300 RPM using the Raker 28.

My question for the mechanic gurus; is it OK to seemingly put a bigger load on the motor and run at the lower RPMS or would it be better to run the smaller prop and get just a little less speed and run a higher RPM?

NO!!! Prop it to turn 5700-5750 on the top end and the motor will be very happy.... Loading a motor with a large prop is the worst thing you can do to an outboard...

I've read that they like to be propped to around 5400-5500?? So with what your saying this is not true?

    Re: ETEC RPM QUESTION (rockstar)

From all the props I tried, 5700-5750 yielded the best overall results in holeshot, top end, fuel economy, and mid range acceleration, while keeping it within the rpm parameters for warranty purposes.

So there are 'warranty' guidelines? Any way to find this information out online?

You see that part in your owners manual (and the tag on the motor) that says "Recomended RPM range"....that would be the guidelines...

Make sure the RPM the tach shows are the REAL RPM's, this can be checked with the Dealers software.

On dealerport, evinrude recommend to prop the motor for 5600rpm.

I would personally prop it to turn a bit higher as use is waterskiing, but I rarely actually run at full speed with no load.

    Re: ETEC RPM QUESTION (ghind)

I have I-Command gauges and I've been testing props for the past month. I have twin 225 E-Tec's and I've propped everywhere from 5300 to 5900. I got the best cruise MPG and the best top end when propped at 5400-5500. I haven't purchaced any props yet cause I'm still testing but I also don't want to hurt the motor.

    Re: ETEC RPM QUESTION (AB)

Well based on the manual it is a wide range! (no tag on my motor regarding RPM).

Based on comments here and other boards it seemed to be a slight mix, so I called BRP and you're right on the money according to them!
    5700-5800

    Thanks guys!

I am going to raise the motor a tad to see how it handles RPM... and I might be selling/trading this new prop RakerII 28 for a 26.

Yes, that is true but you should prop it to the top of the RPM range, 5700-5800.

Good luck! I've run dam close to 20 props on my rig now, just trying to find the right one, and always settle back on the Raker 2's....
