    2007 Stratos 285- What Prop is best (150 E-Tec)

I have a 2007 Stratos 285 with a 150 E-Tec that came with a 24" Raker prop. The whole shot is awful with this prop. It takes about 10 seconds to get on plane with this prop with normal load. What prop would be the best fit for this boat to get a good whole shot and still have decent top end? Thanks in advance for the help!

Is it a Raker II? Buddy had the same combo and and old version Raker 22 helped. A Tempest Plus 23 helped alot. Right up till the Etec popped for a non related problem.

He was only getting 5100-5200 out of the Raker II and did alot of WOT running before he got his prop problem resolved. Always wondered if that hurt it a little.

What are you getting for Rpms and speed? If your getting 5500+ you may need to vent the prop a little better and the holeshot will improve.

Get you a 23 Tempest and try it, that should do the job. The 24 Raker is a little to much prop for that rig.

Re: 2007 Stratos 285- What Prop is best (StratosDadRI)

It is a Raker II. RPMs are very low, about 5300 WOT. The vent holes are all plugged. when I got it home from the dealership after I bought it, it would not plane out... kept blowing out the prop. It took it to the dealer and they plugged all the vent holes. I was then able to plane out but it is very sluggish out of the hole. I was wondering about a 22" Raker but was worried that it might be too small for a 150???

Is there an adapter needed to put a tempest on an E-Tec?

22 Raker is fine for any motor if it fits the need of the boat. I sent you a email.

Tempest will slide right on, You just need the proper Torque Flo kit $35.00 or a Michagan wheel kit same price.

I run a temptest 23 on my Stratos 18' 150 Evinrude Intruder. After re reading you post the vent holes could be to small and need to be opened up some right to the point of blow out. Also do you have a jackplate? 5300 isnt to bad 5400 would be better. If you and fishng buddy are over 200 and your boat is BPS on the water the 22 is the ticket for you. If your 175 fish alone and the boat is ligthly packed then i would rtaise the motor and tune the 24 but its still a Raker II and most say there not as good as the orignal Raker.

The Raker does not have plugs in it, are you sure it's a Raker. I would agree if it's a dog comming out of the hole the holes need to be opened up some but i still think the 24 Raker is way to much prop. That engine can turn up to 5800 with no problem.

Re: 2007 Stratos 285- What Prop is best (RangerRodney)

It's definitely a Raker and it has 3 vent holes around the base of the prop. All had to be plugged in order to get my boat on plane. I don't see how making the vent holes bigger would help out.

Thanks for the suggestiongs guys. I'm going to try to sell the 24" and buy a 22".

I had a 24 Raker that the holes were opened up to 7/16" did the same thing just start to come over on to plane and felt like someone threw it in neutral. making the holes 3/8" fixed all the problems. You have to have some vents. What did they plyg them with? If what ever they filled it with is drillable go for a 1/4" hole then 2 then 3 you will see a differnece. You must be lugging that motor to death with no vents.

25 Merc Tempest, 6" plate 3.25" pad to shaft........65-67 mph setup.

Bombardier props make good anchors or door stops.

Re: 2007 Stratos 285- What Prop is best (Todd Morgan)

The vents have about 1/8" open in the middle so they are not completely plugged. Thanks for the suggestion on opening them up. I'll try that and see what happens.

I can't imagine running a 25" prop on this engine. Seems like that would be way too much. The other problem is I do not have a jack plate.

    Thanks again for the advice!

Listen to Todd. With that motor (assuming it is putting out full hp), a 6" plate, and a 25 Tempest, you'll be tickled pink.

If you're wanting the most out of it, you really need to invest in a 6" manual plate.

I have the same boat and had the same problem with tournament weight(full livewells, full gas tank, 2 passengers, etc.). Went to a 22 pitch Raker and hole shot is great. Lost 2-3 MPH top end.

I run a Raker II 24p (3-blade) and a Renegade 25p (4-blade) on my 286 Pro XL with a 150 HO E-TEC and both are great. Both run around 63.x mph on the GPS and I haven't really tried to tweak the jack plate height to see if I am able to get any more. I get a great hole shot and acceleration from both (must use the weed ring with the renegade).

If you are not getting a good hole shot with the Raker 24, I would have someone check your set-up because that is a good prop for that boat and engine combination.

I've got a 00' Stratos 283 with a johnson 150 running a raker 22 and I can say honestly it has the fastest hole shot out of any boat i've been on. Mike
