    question for stratos owners?

Where exactly do you have your transducer mounted on your transom. There are like three different lips on the bottom, but to get the transducer puck 15 inches off center ( as was recommended to me) I noticed that the bottom two kind of angle out towards the corners rather than flat all the way across. when I get on plane my depth reading goes out where it is currently positioned. Thanks in advance for your help. Any pictures would be great also!

When I mounted mine I put it on the jackplate, It didnt read while running down the lake but I couldnt stand the thought of drilling holes in the hull.

Can't you put it in the bilge area? No drilling and you most likely won't out-run the signal.

+1, Consider getting a shoot thru the hull transducer. You can mount on bottom of boat in bilge area. If you need an external temp sensor, all you have to do is run one to the transom. Shoot thru the hull transducers are easy to install and just make a cleaner install in my opinion.

In my experience no matter where you place it on the outside of the hull you wont be happy. To get it out where you get a good reading at speed, it becomes vary easily knocked off or broken.

The best bet is the through hull units.

I had a skimmer transducer on my Triton that put IN the hull area, just like you would a puck.....I lightly sanded the bottom the skimmer and epoxied to the bottom of the hull...worked great!

i've got the same concerns. getting a new hds and was wanting the best possible reception. the cleanest water underneath and a little safer would be the second step, but that also doesn't appeal to me at all. guess i will have to go through the hull type

I also have the skimmer type and not the "shoot thru" and I mounted it in the bilge area of my 201 and it works perfectly....Clean the bilge real good, lightly sand the area, epoxy and go fishing!!!

To answer your question, I have a Humminbird SI unit so my transducer has to go outside the hull. My SI ducer is mounted dead center on the transom rise right at the bottom of the transom lip, right under my jack plate. I do not get a reading at all above about 10-20 mph, but I have another ducer mounted in the hull for high speed running, works fair but still no good at top speed, moderate speed 4500 rpms OK but more than that it sucks.

There is a danger of knocking the external transducer off in stumps, but I have no choice with a SI bird. In fact my boat is less than a year old and I have broken the mounting bracket, transducer is fine but had to replace the bracket.

Re: question for stratos owners? (rodbender1)

appreciate the reply. thing is I had an Eagle seastrike gps combo that I mounted from my old boat just because after purchasing the new boat, I didn't want to fork out a lot of money right away for a brand new unit. Just trying to figure out how to make what I already have work. I get a reading just fine as long as I'm not going to fast.
