    Trolling motor Breaker?

I just purchased a '98 Stratos 273. I have been poking around the boat and notice that it does not have a breaker for the trolling motor. The current trolling motor is a johnson 12/24v Johnson 53# thrust. I want to put a Minn Kota 70# on the bow. I want to get a Minn Kota in line 60 amp breaker, is this a good idea? Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

can't hurt, I have tripped the breaker on my max pro 80 once and glad it was there. Wouldn't want to know what it would have done without it. You can get the breakers through bass pro or cabelas.

If you look at your TM batteries there should be a small metal cube connected to the battery post and the TM wire. That's the CB's. Pretty sure that Minnkota recommend 80 amp breakers. Contact John Jones on the TM forum he'll have the breakers and is a sponsor here.

I just looked and their are two metal cubes on the two positive wires. Is this standard equipment on Stratos boats or is this something that was added after the boat was purchased. Should there be any numbers stamped on the breaker stating amp rating? I did not see anything stamped on the breakers but they are corroded pretty good. Are you still able to buy these cubes instead of mounting a new breaker or is it better to mount a new CB in the bilge area?
    Thanks

Go with a new breaker, they are only like $30-$40. Depends on the motor, but I think on a 70lb MinnKota you should only need a 50amp breaker. I had to move up from a 50amp to a 60amp when I replaced my 70lb Maxxum with an 80lb Fortrex.
