It would run like a raped ape, if you can drive it...
should I add a 1/4 plate on the inside of the transom or will this really hold this motor? The hp rating is just a suggested rating by coast gaurd formula made up yrs ago ,is what Im being told.![]()
If the boat is 20' or under the plate max stands. If its OVER 20' then its "legally" a suggestion. Now, whatever the insurance Co. says they will cover is a whole different ball of wax.
thx darth u always have a voice brother.![]()
I think the hull will handle it just fine. You will not be able to fish any tournaments with an over rated boat though. It should really scream with a 200.![]()
The 389 hull will handle the extra HP fine. Insurance and tournaments could be an issue since the hull will be over-powered. I had several 389's and always felt like the boat should have been rated for a 200. I would think you may see 70 MPH with that engine. With a 175 HP, those boats typically run around 65 - 67 depending on load. The extra 25 HP should be worth several extra MPH.
