horse power on rude ram ...tournament

i have a 01 stratos 20 ss ext. with the 225 rude ram. boats rated for 225 and the stickers on motor say 225. have been told the rude ram is really 247 hp. will this DQ me in a tourn. due to max rating on boat. i dont think it will or they would not have sold them with this combo new. please if you know help me out.

As long as the motor don't exceeds the H.P. rating that is stamped on the Coast Guard plate that is attached to the boat, then your good to go. Doesn't matter what internal horse power you have, Tx's go by what the boat is rated for. and most all the large Tx are limited to 250 horses. If I'm wrong somebody will tell us real quick.

No DQ, you're fine with the engine. The manufacturers can "tune" them to no more than 10% over the rated horsepower and still be fine with the horsepower rating.

    Hello,
The last response is 100% correct. Your Coast Guard PLate will show that you boat is rated for at least 245hp. I happen to have the same boat set-up. I purchased mine with a 225 ficht and it blew up 2 months later. I then purchased a rebuilt 225 Rude Ram. I broke it in and the motor seems to be fine. I have to yet notice the extra hp its supposed to have compared to the 225 regular ficht. What type of WOT speeds are you getting? Whats your set-up with prop?
I run a 26 renegade and a 26 raker. Top Speed 76mph. I feel that the boat has more lift and speed left. 6" hyd jack plate.

    Thanks
    Barry

i have a 4 blade 27p prop. pretty sure its a renegade. 71.4 gps is as fast as i have had it. 68 loaded down with a partner live wells and gas full. i know mine could lift more and go a bit faster. i would like to try a 25 or 26 raker but my hole shot is really good. scared to loose it. how is your hole shot. i have the same jack plate as you. have you played with it any. i dont think you are going to get much more speed. if that is gps MPH your running then that is really fast.

I mess around with the jack plate alot. Always trying to find the sweet spot.
The 20ss Extreme is a very fast hull. My understanding was that 80 would be reachable with this 225 Rude Ram Version. I keep an eye on weight distribution and weight load. I always run light as possible. My whole shot is wonderful. I use the 4 blade when trying to get on pad in very shallow water and the 3 blade for the speed. It's nice to have the hyd plate so that you can lower the motor if you need a better hole shot. I have also thought about adding a 6 inch manual plate to my existing hyd 6 inch plate to get 12inch of set back. I was told to either try a 27 tempest or 26 raker II.

i think im going to raise my jack plate but i dont know about water pressure. when i get it wound out im only running 10 or 12 psi. its shooting a good stream of water and its been that way for 3 years but that sounds low. my buddy has a 250 yamaha and it gets up over 20. may just be diff in motor? i dont think i can go any higher. what psi are you running.

My pressure gauge reads around 6 or7 lbs of pressure while idling and then 20 to 25 while running WOT. I have ran it with only 5 lbs of pressure with the plate super high trying to get out of shallow water. Usually the hot light will come on before you reach 0 psi and blow the motor. I really dont know for sure how far my prop shaft is below pad, I'm always adjusting it on the run. It depends on who's in the boat and how much crap they brought with them. Is your plate hyd?
I would recommend bumping it up a bit and give her hell.

Once the ice breaks up Im going to try that 26 raker II and the 27 Tempest. I'll let you know the results.

ICE!!! man it has not been under 65 here in 3 weeks. they already starting to spawn. guess your up north huh. i just went and raised it up an inch. and no its not hyd. its a big socket wrench and a lot of not so easy pulling. we are going to our camp this weekend and i dont have a tourn for 2 weeks so ill get to play with it for about 4 days in a row. we will see how it turns out. prop is around 2 inches below pad now. but my boat sits way low in the back. broke transome about 2 years ago and had a solid fiberglass one put back on. its about 8 in thick and goes all the way across the back. needless to say it added some extra weight. the factory one is some type of composite material and is only about 1in thick at most. and only 3 1/2 ft wide. big diff on weight and it lets boat sit down in ass end about 2 more inches than what it did before so i think ill be ok. thanks for your input i havent had a chance to speak with anyone with the same set up. thanks again.

You guys down South are so lucky. It's supposed to be in the lower 20's for Highs this week. I went ice fishing yesterday and drilled over 20 inches of ice on a pond.
Our spawn starts Late April. I should be able to get on the water in Early April.

    Have fun and be safe

    Tight Lines!
