I have a 98 Stratos 295 that I bought last spring. I noticed that the steering seemed tight from the very first trip, also seemed to torque to the right more when trying to get up on plane. I worked trying to free up clean and grease the cables, which helped somewhat. I noticed once on plane it improved the movement, but still just seemed to stiff for normal. I assumed that maybe i needed some new cables sometime soon, well a few months later I take off the tarp one cold day and try to turn the steering and it's all but frozen or siezed up. I can move it but really have to muscle just to move it a 1/2 in either way. I might add that it is dual cable non-feedback steering also. I dont think the steering has ever been replaced,so my question is Should I replace the steering since its probably 10 yrs old? What is the best steering besides hydrolic to replace it with? I am on a tight budget, but absolutley won't sacrifice myself or anyone else's safety at all. Does anyone know what cables came stock on the 295, length wise, or know any way to take the system off and measure it without screwing something up? any help would be appreciated.![]()
