    Pop up Cleats

I would like to replace my standard cleats with Pop up style. What is the best brand to use?

    Re: Pop up Cleats (tt400)

I installed pop-up cleats on the front of my 195 ProXL. I used the Atwood cleats that have two large nuts. You drill two 3/4" holes through the top cap and access the nuts under the cap. I got mine from Stratos. There are other types but you may need to cut a slot in the top cap and to my that was too risky.

Here's the listing for all the cleats on C&O's site.

I think the one you are looking for might be this one.

Do you need to install drip pans under them to keep water out?

Here is a link to a site that has them. The 4-1/2" stainless steel pull-up cleat is the one Stratos uses. It has the large studs so you have to drill two holes. It comes with boots that go over the studs to capture water. You will need to route the tubing into the bilge or do what I did and just add two feet of tubing and plug the end with a nail. it catches any water and the water soon dries up inside the tube.

Try link below. Purchase where you get the best price.

They are too tall and if you lay your rod down on the gunnell, you can pick it up with the tip under the cleat and break it...I have had 3 co-anglers do it on my back ones...

Do any of these cleats fit perfect over the existing holes from the original cleats?

Hell, between my partner and I we have "lost" 3 Loomis's and a Falcon. I took them off and have not "lost" another rod

    Re: Pop up Cleats (Phami1)

The cleats I got from Stratos covered almost all of the four original holes. Just the very edge would show. We applied black silicone caulk around the base of the cleat and it filled the holes. You can barely see the caulk. My boat is a dark color so it matched up well. The cleats shown above will work just as well but you will have to cut a slot out in the top cap. The area where the cleat is installed is reinforced with aluminum.

Pop up cleats are soooo nice. Two rods on my old boat were snapped off due to standard non-popup cleats. You wont regret getting them.

My cleats have taken 7 rods in 2 years. Most of them were legend elite St croix

I've been thinking of doing the same. I've broken 3 rods on my front cleats.
