Stratos 201 worth buying???

OK so I looked at a Stratos 201 Pro tonight, its an 88 Stratos with what he thinks is an 85 200 Merc on it... Trim WORKS but the Tilt DOES NOT... EuropeanAM told me to check the serial number on the motor and hopefully someone could help look it up and get some more info for me... the guy also stated it was Fuel injected and a few of the guys on here didnt think Merc made a FI motor until 89ish?? So when I looked at the boat, the Motor said MERC 200 FORM 2.4 EFI on the casing and the serial number was : 6285399... my other post on here was TRIM ISSUE... I copied/pasted the emails the guy had sent to me onto there... can anybody help me out or clue me in to what this motor is and perhaps the issue with the trim as well??? Also he stated that when he took the motor into a marina one time that the mechanic that looked at it said there was no wiring for the trim? He has owned the boat for 3 years and has never had it... other issues... the spedometer didnt work and the steering wheel was tough to turn, maybe new steering cables would help??? I drove the boat and it really got up and went, also wasnt sure what kind of jackplate was on it? Any info would be appreciated thanks in advance to everyone thats been helping me out!! ps I'm in love with the boat, GREAT shape and I can probably pick it up for around 3,000!!!

it should be worth that,a good riding boat and fishes good too..as you stated merc didn't have a efi intil like 88 or 89 i believe,,the laser motors.
if you pull the cowling it is easy to tell efi or carb..speed o meeter is no big deal,they very seldom are close,if it is just wireing for the tilt that is easy too..steering probabably is original,new steering,the hardest job.

I did pull the cowl on the motor... I"m new to boats/motors, but I did not see a carb anywhere? I'm used to cars/trucks though... maybe I dont know what I'm looking for? THanks for the info, and hopefully I'll be a proud new or "new to me" owner of a Stratos soon!!!!
