I'm currently in a 2000 20SS Extreme with 200HP Ficht and considering getting a 2008 294 with 200 Optimax. What differences can I expect to see between the two? How much different will the ride be on normal inland lakes ? I don't do the big water lakes such as Erie or the other famed boat breakers just local stuff. Just looking for input from people who have ridden in or owned either of these two boats. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2006 294 with the 200HO ETEC. I've had it in 3-5 footers and had non boaters say it rode excellent in the rough conditions. The hole shot is incredible, having that power available makes it easier to handle the rough water. Not sure what the Mercury will give you in that department. It has plenty of storage and is a good platform to fish from. Mine did not come with a pump out valve, which I am adding, they may come with it now. I added a jack plate last year and managed 73 mph on GPS, I ran out of season to tweak it anymore than that. Mine also came with the dual axle trailer and would reccommend that to anyone. It also came with the 80# minn kota with the extended shaft, another bonus in rough water. I think it is a great boat in that price range. Good Luck!

I have an 07 294 w/ 200HO E-tech and love it. I think it handles rough water pretty good as long as you drive it right. I have tandem axle trailer also, and would recomend that to anyone. It's a great boat for the money. I have had a few little problems with some minor cosmetic issue, but I'm sure every brand has the same type problems.
