IM FRUSTRATED! WHERE TO MOUNT MY TRANSDUCER ON MY 201

I have a 97 201 and I cant figure out where to mount my X-18 dual frequency transducer on my transom without it losing signal at speed. I cant drive more than 8 mph without it losing signal and start flashing.

Where is the best spot on this boat's transom to mount the transducer so I can cruise along and still have a signal?

Im getting very frustrated that it wont read the bottom. My buddy's crappy unit on his tracker reads the bottom at 40 mph. Thanks so much guys!!!

Is mounting it in the bilge out of the question? If so, try looking up under the transom at the first "step" on the port side. I think there is a flat spot that will accomodate your transducer.

have 96 295,stuck it down inside about 2 inches in front of the drain and it will read until i trim it up to the final "hop" on to the pad then she goes away.my factory mount spot was right under the back of the livewell..if you need to set it in and put a small sand bag on top so you can move it til you find the spot you like..ran mine with a sand bag on it for 2 months before i glued it..

Inside the hull is best, but if you stay on the transom, where have you been mounting it? It will only work if mounted down on the lowest part, where the drain hole is. Anything else will put the transducer out of the water or in turbulent water when the boat is moving..

hate to bring it up as I know I will be told I dont know what I am talking about but here goes. putting the transducer down by the drain plug is a very big NO NO . since it is in front of the motor you run the chance of interfering with the water flow to your engine. yours may or may not do it but I for one would not like to install it there and later blow a head since I blocked water flow and it over heated.
The best place as stated is in the hull, you may lose a few degrees on your temp gauge part but hey you can always drop a thermometer over the side for a few minutes.
the second best place is where your livewells drain out yes you wil lose signal at HI speed but when you are running 70 mph you are gonna be way past whatever hump or such you wanted to look at. that is when the gps and a decent map come into play. remember 8-12 inches away from your lower unit on either side as you do not want water being blocked or air getting into your intakes and goning Boom on you.

mount it in the hull, if not leave in the box it will work about as good,i have been down that road,in the hull is the way to go,the transom mount is good for boat that run about 20 mph
