    1995 278 gas tank removal

Hi - Anyone get the gas tank out of a 278 without issue? There's a lot of disconnection - disassembly of stuff (livewell pumps, hoses, water filter, etc...) before I even try to tilt it up and get it out. It looks close, I figured I'd check with anyone before spending all that time unassembling and reassembling for nothing.

    -thanks

    steve

this is for a recirc/pumpout install - I have to get to the hoses underneath the tank.

Re: 1995 278 gas tank removal (StratosDadRI)

Yea - If Stratos only moved the drain valve back a bout 1 inch, I could get to it. I can get to one hose clamp, but the one on the other side is just out of reach. I need one of those service monkeys. It looks real tight.... oh well here she goes.

    I'll let you know.

Hey - No Cabossee this year?

Doesnt look like it, we had to cancel, New job and 3 out of State events with the Jr's. Good luck and you have my number, Please keep me posted, that big fuel fill line looks like the tuff one to get by.

Have you choosen your plumbing pieces? I was thinking of a better valve with a recirculation option as well as pumpout for mine also?

Re: 1995 278 gas tank removal (StratosDadRI)

Yes - I'm going to either clean out / replace the drain valve (leaking) and
tee off that line before the valve and go to a new recirc pump, into the livewell with a Flow-Rite recirc/pumpout valve and then drill in the gunnel next to the bilge fitting and run a pumpout line out. That's If I can get the tank out.....

We'll know in a few days...

p.s. Mike, I now sell All Star Rods, Bass Boat Saver, and some Xtools as part of my sponsorship with BBC. If you know anyone that may want to purchase locally, I would love the opportunity. No shipping either that way - the BBS is heavy and $$ to ship...

    Re: 1995 278 gas tank removal (buster502)

You 278 owners ever get under the boat and see a 2-3" black circle back near the pad area? I can just barley see under the tank with lights and mirrors but is that where the transducer is?

Re: 1995 278 gas tank removal (StratosDadRI)

yes, I have some pics of that from the underside posted on BBC somewhere.
I have been wanting to replace my valves but they haven't completed failed on me yet so I have held off. I will probably do like most everyone else when it does start acting up then I will put a complete new system with a pumpout and add a recirc kit. Good luck guys.

Ive had mine not work for years and have used livewell plugs. The plugs plug the hole in the well and do not allow the water to escape when using the wells. C7o sells them . Its the lazy way to solve the problem.

Re: 1995 278 gas tank removal (fishermanvs)

Thats is a good fix but my valve is leaking into the boat so i have a cork and a duck tape patch over the drain hole out back by the plug. Say a guy launch one day and 20 minutes later his boat was sinking the valve had let go and water was coming in the backwards throught the drain right into the boat. He beached is so it wouldnt sink and bailed and pumped till he got it close than made a mad dash for the trailer.

Re: 1995 278 gas tank removal (All Star Steve)

ok- tank came out like nothin..... I broke the stem off the drain fitting in the hull..... of course it's plastered in sealant... my god, this stuff is like cement.

the 2 o-rings are inside the valve. 1 was split, ordered a new one.. there is a fiberglass shelf under the entire tank that blocks view of the puck, but I took the valve out...

NO IDEA how the senkos got in there
