    Prop help

All, I'm an idiot when it comes to choosing a prop, but I really want to learn. I don't even know what prop I have on my current set up. It's in storage so I'm having a tough time getting to it.

Here is what I do know:
    Stratos 201XL
    200 Evinrude Vindicator
    Jackplate
Prop is 3 1/2 inches below pad
Current prop is a 4 blade
    66 mph with GPS
Don't know the RPM's because my guage quit working

The prop I have on there is dinged up real bad from a tournament. Can you give me a guesstimate as to what it might cost to repair?

If I wanted a good hole shot, my choice of prop would be_____________.
If I wanted top speed, my choice of prop would be___________________.

    Thanks,

    Holeshot? 25 Trophy

Top Speed? 25 Trophy, Maybe a 26 Tempest. I don't know if you can spin that with the 200.

Those are my best guesses. I'm not overly familiar with that combo of boat and motor.

Well, I had the 25 right, and I mentioned a Tempest. Just not together.

    so, is the 25 tempest a 3 blade or a 4 blade?
Does the 4 blade give you the hole shot and the 3 blade give you the speed? I saw a 25 tempest on the props4sale page

Tempest is a 3 blade. You will have to get an OMC hub kit to use one.

As for which prop does what, set up has a lot to do with it. The general consensus is a 3 blade will go faster then a 4, however, I have found the 4 is much more stable in rougher water, and on my last boat, and this one, so far a 4 blade is the fastest, but I haven't tried a tempest yet. Got the hub kit, but don't want to buy one just to try.

Whatever prop you get, you need to be running 5800 to about 6000 rpms. I ran my Venom 5900 all day long and it never gave me a lick of trouble. Turned about 400 rpms less with a 25 compared to a 23 gade. Acceleration and holeshot were all there with the 23, and top speed was about 1mph less. Fair trade if you ask me.
