    Stratos 201 XL w/ 250 Pro XS set-up...

    Hey guys...

I may be ordering my new boat soon and the new boat is going to be a 201 with a 250 Pro XS... more than likley...

I'm running a 200 Pro XL with a 225 Pro XS right now, and with my load i've found that a 25 Tempest seems to be the best prop for how I run. When light, I can turn a modded 27 Tempest.

I've had some issues with my prop losing bite and blowing out when navigating in big water. So i'm contemplating going with a Trophy. You guys that are running the 250 Pro XS or the older XS, what props are you guys running? I think a 27 Trophy will do, but I might be wrong.

The ultimate rough water prop is the High-5 but I don't want to sacrafice that much speed...

So like I said... i'm thinking a 27 Trophy would be good... what do you guys think?

I'd really look hard at the txp-ot4 for what you do.... http://www.turbo-props.com/TXP.htm

Run one pitch smaller than you normally would.... You will love it. I have a 27P if you want to hook up and try it.

Stays hooked up great in the rough and accelerates awesome with great load carrying and top speed. They have thick blades that are durable unlike trophies.

I agree with Mike. Turbo TXP 4 O/T all the way.

I'll definatly look into that... I'm assuming that they pitch larger than what they say so a 26 might be the way to go...

    Any other options?

I will be really honest I bought a txp 27P 3 blade and it is not as good as a tempest 27 3 blade. I know a lot of people love them but on my boat it was slower and did not hold up the nose as well as an out of the box temp. just my .02

Were not talking about the 3 blade.... For the water we fish here in Michigan (Great Lakes) The 4 blade is awesome. It is a fairly new prop that many have not tried yet. Have you tried one yet? I have run 70 different props and see that alot of people are really liking the OT4 for this application. Best place to buy is from GEBlazer the blazer boat moderator... He will work with you to make sure you get the right pitch.

Mike, How does this prop for bow lift? I would love to have a 4 blade to run on my 201, but none of them have worked yet...

We ran one of those on a Cougar. Very impressive prop, and for your application I agree with Mike, it'd be a lot better and a lot more durable on the great lakes...

It really carries the bow well, Not just on my boat either. Having alot of rake, cupping and bigger diameter than a trophy it rocks as a fishing prop. It's 14 3/8 diameter vs: the trophy at 13 3/4 in diameter. All of these props have the flo-torq hub/square bore that if you want to sell or buy one, They will fit any motor with the correct hub kit.

I think your 250 yamaha would really like this prop.

These props have a lifetime waranty for blade failier too...

    Jose,

A hydraulic jackplate would help you more than anything. Being able to lower the engine in the rough stuff really helps a lot.

    Yeah... I didn't mention that, but i'll have a Bob's on it...

That is probably the best thing you can put on your boat when it comes to fishing up here, the ability to adapt on the move is huge. I had a Detwiler on my first 200 Pro XL and I didn't order my new one with it and I should have. This time i'll stick to my guns and get the hydraulic.

This will also be a different rig than my last two boats and I wanted some insight on how to rig it...

I'll definatly check out the OT-4 and i'll check out a Trophy as well...

    Mike,

We should hook up and I can try that 27 when the time comes. I may need a 26 though...

I've been running a box stock OT 29 TXP on one of the 21 2+2 allisons.....been doing a very good job. Speed with a HydroMotive QuadIV has been better.....but there is several dollars in difference between the two.

Had you not mentioned the rough water...I'd say 27 Tempest and don't look back.....

Re: Stratos 201 XL w/ 250 Pro XS set-up... (Todd Morgan)

    Todd,

My original thought for a prop was a 27 Tempest, but then I started to think about the really rough days on Erie when i'm climbing big waves and stuff, it would just lose bite...

Up here, I fish that stuff about 95% of the time, a Tempest is fine when running around the rivers and Lake St. Clair, but Erie's waves are bigger and its bigger more often and like I said, the High-5 would be the best bet for that, but my performance would suck when it came to running calm water... I'm hoping the Trophy or the OT-4 will still give me some decent performance...

The OT4 would probably be my choice given it vs the Trophy......Trophy will still sling an ear when surfaced......too big of water up there to take a chance!
