    Problem....need help....won't crank, won't fire

    1992 E200STLEN

Had something weird happen on the lake yesterday. During my last run I noticed my trim had stopped working. Fished for a little while and just before firing the motor up to leave, I tried the trim....it worked. Cool. Fired the motor, (it started up just like it had all day long) idled for a minute or two and while idling I heard this faint buzzing sound like something shorting out so I turned the motor off to see if I could figure out where the noise was coming from. The buzzing stopped, I didnt see anything out of the ordinary under the dash so I decided to get back to the ramp ASAP......tried to start the motor again and got nothing. Didn't crank, didn't beep.....nothing. Dead silence. Needless to say I was stranded.

Could a voltage regulator cause this? What else could it be? Batteries are new, good connections and had been on charge before the trip.

Nope on the VR but yep on the trim. check your 20 amp fuse near the starter you can't miss it red holder and short fuse.

It is possible but, it is easy to check. Fire the motor up on the muffs and check voltage also watch the tach. If the trim is going crazy then you have a trim control issue.

I cant fire the motor.....thats the main problem. When I turn the key I get nothing, no clicking, no beeps, no nothing. The trim problem was just what I noticed first, the motor not cranking or firing or doing anything is what worrries me the most.

And the tach has been acting strange lately if it matters. Idling at 800 tach reading 2000, turning around 4000, tach showing 6500.....

Check the main fuse first. You will see the harness next to the starter. Make sure your shifter is in neutral. If the motor won't trim then you've blown the main fuse.

Main fuse is good, could a bad battery connection be causing all this?

Yes. verify battery voltage at the battery and at the starter.
