What is the difference between a Stratos and a Javelin? I assume that Javelin was an entry level sub brand of Stratos that is no longer manufactured.
Collected wisdom please.

They were actually different companies at one time. When omc went belly up in 2000/2001 stratos and javelin were moved into the same plant under genmar. Genmar phased out javelin I believe in 2002. Some of the stratos boats had javelin hulls for a couple of years.

2002 was the last year. They were kind of 'sister' companies when owned by OMC. When Genmar purchased the boat assets of OMC they did phase out the Javelin brand. There are two current bass rigs in the Stratos lineup which are Javelin hulls that were carried over--the 285 XL and 200 XL.

Did Stratos have the higher end market in the late 90's? I've gone back and looked at both websites in the past, but its hard to see everything once omc started trying to control both pages. Looks like that started in 2000, even though omc was struggling.
Do remember Javelin having a fairly aggressive marketing in 98 or so. Have some old magazines with full page adds in them.

I guess you could say that. You could get just about anything you wanted on a Javelin, but there did seem to be more standard features on the Stratos lineup.

The answer really depends on the years you want to compare. The two boat brands were marketed to different dealers until the late 1990's. They were both equally equipped at the time.
They were then sort of combined with the intent to offer Javelin as a more cost effective product to Stratos/Javelin dealers. The 185 was a new design once Genmar took over and that became the Stratos 185 Javelin Series the next year. That same hull is being used today and has been the 185, 285 and 286 models.
The current 200 Pro XL is based on one of the older Javelin hulls.

My '00 Venom 17 is a pretty basic boat. No recirculate, no pump-out, and 2 small livewells (front and rear). It doesn't have an automatic bilge pump either. But, if you're looking for a great deal on a good riding and good looking boat, then a Javelin is great.

No. ProCraft, Nitro, Bass Tracker, and Tahoe (pleasure boats) are all owned by Tracker Marine.
