    Prop slip on my rig...

    2002 Javelin 180
    2002 Yamaha 130v4
    2.00 gear
    SST 13.25 x 22 Yammie prop
    5300rpm light (too low)
    53mph (GPS)
Motor on transom, 5.5" below pad (I think is too low)
    Water psi 16psi WOT

Using the prop calculator on the site (adding 1" to the prop to get 23" for cup), I'm coming up with 10% slip.

Now, I believe this prop is about an inch too steep, as my fully loaded rpm is only around 5000 (full tank, livewells and a 200lb passenger). The holeshot stinks with a load in the boat, but I suspect that's also because the motor is too low (5 1/2 inches below pad).

Before I go sending this prop off, adjusting this and that, just wanna make sure...is this 10% slip appropriate for the setup? Should I be looking for less slip? Will it lessen as I raise the engine a bit (have two holes left)?

Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Prop slip on my rig... (tnjavelin)

Before going to that expense I'd get a Yamaha 21K and try it.......it'd answer what you need to know and borrowing is better than buying till you know.

Thanks! How exactly would I go about borrowing this prop from someone? lol I don't know anyone running the same motor or that prop...maybe post in the General or Prop forum?

Thanks again for the input. Very useful!
