I would think 74gps - 77gps on average depending on load
2014 TRITON 220 ESCAPE / MERCURY 250 PROXS
75-76 tournament load (two guys, full gas, livewells) to 78 GPS lightly loaded. 80 is possible. Somewhere in between is where you'll run at wot, but you will need to be able to drive the boat to its max. It also depends on what you want. . speed? holeshot?

28 Raker will get you 75-76 loaded and almost 79 light. A 29 ASX/TXP will get you 80 light with a good setup.
That is a GREAT combo. I had it in an '05 version.![]()

These speeds sound like cool weather speeds from my experience.

I have to agree w/DANNY, I have the exact same rig. 3-4 months ago my partnered tourney load we hit 75.8 gps, usually 75ish. Now we are struggling to stay at 72ish.
Assuming it's a 225etec
Rodbender1,
There might be something wrong with ur setup. I have a 201dc/225 e-tec ho combo and touch that in the summer (72), fully loaded with bps and cabelas in the boat. I'm no expert by any means but I am sure that there is a lil more left in ur rig even in these temps. I know that the 200 is good for a few more mphs than the 201! Now, what u have to do to find it, I have no clue!!
I have to agree with Danny. I believe these are winter speeds. I have a 200 xl/225 pro xs combo and 73 loaded with two is about it. Now Im 270 and my partner is 210 so that doesnt help. I have hit 77.8 with me and full load with half a tank of gas but I weigh as much as two normal people. I don't think there is much of a dropoff in speed going from a 200 to a 201. I haven't found a 200 with any other motor that seems to be faster than mine??
I run a 225 Pro XS as well, but i'll disagree with you in the fact that those are winter speeds...
I'm not saying they can run those numbers all the time, but I do believe the 225 E-Tec HO is stronger than the 225 Pro XS with that combination... by about 2 mph... I also notice that the Mercury is alot more sensitive to the air temps and humidity during the summer... Mine is a little sluggish with these 90 degree temps and humidity that were are getting up here, where my HO seemed to run fine, except the hole shot sucked...
My old DI HO ran 2 mph more than my current 225 Pro XS... and the E-Tec HO is not all that different in power than the DI HO...
I love my Mercury, and I'm not gonna run anything else for a while, but I do believe that 225 HO is the deal for those 200 Pro XL's...

I just traded a 2005 200 ProXL/225 HO DI for a 2007 200XL/225 ProXS. I only have about 4 or 5 hours on this ProXS now so I am not sure it is doing all it will do yet. I am running the same speeds now that I ran with the HO DI. My best speed so far with the ProXS was 78.8 GPS, now that was with 1/2 tank of gas and nothing in the boat but me and 2 soda's. With a full tank and tourny load by myself I have run 77.3. Last weekend in a tournament fully loaded with me (250) and partner (200) I ran 74.5. During the blast off I passed a friend of mine in his 2006 200 ProXL/225 HO Etec, when I passed him my GPS was showing 74.3 and I was maybe 1 mph faster than he was. These numbers are about the same as I allways got with my 200/225 HO in the summer. In the winter I did get a touch over 80 a few times by myself and 76-77 with 2 in the boat.

Oh boy here goes a war. I have owner a 2006 225 etec HO and I don't think it was as powerful as my 225 pro xs. I thought the etec got out of the hole better but the merc seems to pull better on top end. I don't think the etec HO is quite as strong as the 225 HO rudes from around 2003. I just need to lose weight to make mine faster.
An example of summer speeds: 82F water surface temp, 90F air temp, no current, 77 GPS just two weeks ago with my 201. I think too much weight forward of the console kills performance. I carry what I need, but not an entire tackle store. Weight is something we don't talk about too much as a variable. There's a happy medium in there somewhere.

Same here. I got 78 last Thursday evening. 86 degree water and 90 degree air.I actually had to lower my motor some. I was raising it, but not gaining anything (actually lost a little speed and drivability). I lowered back down a touch and I believe it's about right.

The speed of 79 with the 29 ASX prop on my '05 200 w/ H.O. E-TEC was ran in the middle of the day in July. It was hot. I had myself, my tackle, 1/2 tank of fuel on board.

I guess I have been lucky enough to have owned 2 of the slowest 200's ever made. Or maybe these TEAM BOATS have a little something special in them so they will be faster then everyone else.
Danny
Danny,
You are correct. Team boats do have something special in them . . . me and Jason!
You're welcome to inspect my boat or Jason's boat any time, as well as, take a ride in them. Setup is key. Experience driving is also key.
I believe the '07 HPDI engines are stronger and I believe quality control in the lay-up process is tighter in '07, resulting in weight savings for the hulls.
One thing to keep in mind is that our demo boats don't have dinged props, damaged hulls, damaged skegs, or the normal wear and tear of a two or three year old boat.
There's no magic, NOS systems, additives, special sausce, secret pieces and parts, sanded pads, worked props, or exageration involved. It is what it is and its all stock.
I can appreciate your skepticism as it relates to your own experience, but please don't insinuate we're trying to fool anyone.
The point being made is that these boats will perform very well if setup correctly, that includes proper weight distribution, propped correctly, jackplate setup at right setting, and experienced driver.
When I heard AB was getting 79 out of his 201 w/225 ETEC HO, I, at first questioned that, but I didn't insinuate he's "cheating" to get it. He spent a lot of time setting it up to run that way. (not meaning to drag AB into this by the way.)

have a team boat, but an '04 201 dual console with 250 OX66 Yamaha... Nothing done to it but set-up and trying props... I can run 76-77 anytime in the heat with just me in it and all my crap and good load of fuel...In springtime I can run 78-79...A buddy with same year 200proxl w/225HO DI can outrun me by a couple mph light, but we will run about the same loaded... I drop off about 2 mph with a partner and livewells full, no matter what the weather...I think the 201 carries the load a little better than the 200's do...If you are dropping off more than 2 mph with a load, you need set-up work or prop work... Mine ran like crap loaded with my T1 and ran better with a TXP, but really runs great with my Tempest... Other boats may run better with the TXP, Raker, T-1, etc... ... It all depends on the load and set-up you have on your individual boat...
I am going to be running the Ohio river this weekend and will expect to run 74-75 loaded going up river into the current with livewells empty and will get 76+ coming back down river with livewells full...Mine is actually balanced better @ 3/4 tank of fuel and runs better than when it is on 1/4 or below...I am thinking about taking out about half the tackle I normally carry and see if it effects my top end... I carry it all in the front 2 compartments and I know I have over 80 lb's of plastics, plus all my crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, etc...
Duane, the coment about the team boats haveing something special in them was a joke, the 2005 200 Pro XL I had came from a C&O team member. Now as for driving a boat I do not claim to be the best but I will bet money that no one can get in my boat and get more out of it than I do. I am not trying to argue with anyone here or insinuate that anyone is "CHEATING". I just want madtackle (that ask the question in the first place) to understand that all of the 200 ProXL boats do not run the speeds you and Jason said they do. As far as spending time setting up a boat, you will have a hard time finding anyone that has spent more time (and money) tweaking thier setup than I do. On my 2005 I ran somewhere between 10-15 different props and spent over $1000.00 with Mark on prop work. On this 2007 that I have now, I have only had it 5 weeks and allready run 8 different props. So I don't appreciate you insinuating that just because you and Jason run team boats and I don't that you automaticly know more and spend more time setting up a boat than i do.
Danny
Duane, since I made my last post I realized how true a post was in another forum on this site about this whole site getting to the point that us common dumbass boat owners should not offer advise anymore, we should just ask questions and let the high and mighty experts like you do all of the question answering. So from now on I will just sit back and let the experts like yourself give all the advice.
Here is to you an Jason and all the other C&O Marine Team Member Experts.![]()

It would be nice if people would post their setups on items like this. That way maybe we can see a common trend among the setups that sticks out.
I have no qualms posting my setup, right now I am at 2" under pad, turning a 28 Raker2, 5600-5800 depending on the air temp right now, turned it to 5900 in the winter, speeds vary between 77 tourney loaded in the 100* heat we have now to my best loaded speed of 78.5 with a partner and every bit of BassPro Shops and half of Publix in the boat. I have had it to 79.9 turning a 29 Tempest 6000 at 2.75" under pad. I have ALL my tackle in the rear storage compartment on the front deck, spare prop and tools, anchor, etc, behind the seats, and use the very front storage for life vests, bumpers, etc....My speeds are all verifiable and there are enough members around my area that anyone is welcome to drive my boat and see if it does what I say it does.....![]()
