Rebuilding a low time ficht motor. What brand of piston would be best to use? Looks like it will need one at .020 over. Wish they made one at .010 over?
Thanks

The guys here most likely will recommend factory BRP pistons, which is what was inside my 1985 115 before I sold it. Big mistake (selling it)........
Burning the candle at both ends.
I don't guess you can go wrong with factory pistons. I was just curious how many votes for Wiseco there would be.

I use wiseco on all the rebuilds I have done (4-V6's, 3-V4's). Good pistons at a good price.![]()

I would check out the Wiseco too. I believe LA sleeve has rebuild kits for outboard too. I'm not sure what brand piston...I think it's Pro X pistons. Factory pistons are fine but I think Wiseco or Pro-X pistons are cheaper and possibly better?!

I've also used Wisecos in all my rebuilds. So far so good!!!
I've used original pistons (246- V6),(68 -V4) and only one faulty piston.
Use only original stuff.
Who warrants your job?

If you are going to use forged pistons then make dang sure you get the clearences right or you will cold sieze it.
Also you have to let forged pistons warm up before you hammer the throttle or it will sieze also.
I have wisecos in mine.
Just make sure you use a good machine shop to do your work. Boring/Honing. Have them check your pistons to make sure none are oval. BTW no suprise I use BRP parts only.![]()
I used GLM to do my motor this summer. They make the one for the Ficht that you need to use.OMC/Bombardier are still selling some of the old design that had all the oil holes in the skirt, the pistons have been redisgned to have only one hole in the skirt for oil purpose, and if you check the OMC part #'s you will see a change!
Any way I bought them from E-Basic power down in your area best price and fast shipping.Search will bring up their web!
Good Luck!
Ed
Thanks Ed, I used GLM on a Merc I did and had no problems with them. I will check them out for the Evinrude.
