    115 E-Tec question for moderators

I just got my 115 module updated and they gave me the printout. I have 134 hours on it. The motor was purchased in May '06. The update made it idle smoother. I run in the flats and water is very salty. I know that BRP says 3 years no service, etc. My question is, should I have the lower unit oil changed and/or anything else done to this motor because of the # of hours and the salty water?

Not a moderator, but yes, change the lower unit fluid at the end of every season or 100 hours. It is no different than any other model lower unit that requires annual service..

i would check around the hub to make sure nothing like fishing line or anyother type debris has messed up the seal.if the seal is ok the lower unit lube should be fine.

In salt water the owners manual says to lubricate all the fittings yearly and to pull the prop and grease the shaft. For best protection in saltwater, lube everything 2 or 3 times a year.

At the same time the prop is removed, check for fishing line behind the thrust washer.

You can change oil if you wish but it is not necessary if it is still clean.
