    201 XL

    Guys,
I have been doing a little shopping to re-power my TR19 and ran across a non-current 201 XL w/225 Etec. Wife isn't happy, but I am seriously considering. Looking for info on how the boat handles rough water, top end, hole shot, general quality of Stratos, longterm durability, etc.....

    Re: 201 XL (tr19la)

    I've had 2 225 E-TEC H.O.'s ('05 and '06). I really liked the motors.

I've got a 201 now and I love it. I have had 5 Stratos boats so I really like them. They are built very well and the 201 handles rough water as good as anything. The 201 has a great layout and a ton of storage.

The 201 with the 225 E-TEC will run mid 70's all day long. Some are running a little better than that. This is with the H.O. version of the 225. If it is the standard 225 you can take off 3-4 mph.

    Re: 201 XL (1niceStratos)

I have the same setup. Love the boat, the layout is great, and its storage is second to none. As Jason said - it will run 75-76 all day long, there are guys that running near 80 though. The Etec is a strong motor, and is quiet. Before you buy it, make sure that the motor has all the updated mapping installed and well as any service bulletins, depending on the year of your motor. I have only owned Stratos' so I can't compare it to a Triton, but I would think that you will like it. I have never had a problem with any Stratos that I have owned, my last one was 10 years old and was in great shape, no spider cracks, or fading, or quality issues. The ride in the 201 is great, very predictable and smooth.

    Re: 201 XL (tr19la)

I ran an ETEC HO on a 200 ProXL last year. Great combo. I think it will do well on the 201.

The 201 has the best of all worlds. . .good hole shot, good ride, good handling (even in rough water), and great speed.

I rode in Jason's new 201XL two weeks ago on Wheeler. Winds blowing steady at 18-20mph. Had some nice rollers on the lake. . .201 did great.

I used to have a 2003 TR19 Bass Master Classic, it had all the push panel buttons, all the options, fiberglass fenders, best looking boat I've ever owned. . . . but it rode like a log wagon in rough water (I didn't realize how harsh the ride was in rough water till I drove another boat). . . . . . believe me, the 201's ride will make you forget all about the TR19.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Besides electronics, what options should I look at for the boat ?
What set back and prop if I go with the Etec ?

It should be pretty loaded if it is an '06. Most of what is optional this year was standard last year.

6" or 8" plate. 26 Raker II prop.

    Thanks

All I can get my hands on is the 07 literature.

So what is a good price on an 06 with 225 Etec ?

    Re: 201 XL (tr19la)

    Guys,
I need a litle help to figure out if the dealer is blowing smoke or not. I am convinced I like the boat and want an Etec but am struggling over the price on an non-current. Basically the dealer is wanting $35,000 for boat and 225 Etec, TM and all standard stuff.
Originally I thought this was a good price as the 2007 Stratos catalog has a price published of $42,000, but I have since found a couple more non-currents on the net for the same price. Additionally 1 or 2 have the HO not the standard 225.

    Help !

What should I really be paying for this boat ?

    Re: 201 XL (tr19la)

I'd say you're pretty close on the price. C&O has their last '06 201 listed with a 225 HPDI for that same price. http://www.candomarine.com/page0009.htm Good luck!!

    I'm enjoying my 201!!

    Re: 201 XL (tr19la)

If the boat you are looking at has a standard 225 Etec it will not run the speeds that Jason and Dan stated. The speeds they stated were with a 225 Etec HO.

    Re: 201 XL (Flipping57)

Yep. The standard 225 will be quite a bit slower (5-6 mph). A 225 H.O. is 3-4 mph faster than the 250 E-TEC.

    Re: 201 XL (1niceStratos)

Got a chance to take another, more detailed look yesterday. I like the boat, the engine is a 225HO, but a 2005 Model. Any downside to a 2005 ? Is this a talking point to get the price down or insignificant because its never even been started ??

    Thanks for all the help!

    Re: 201 XL (tr19la)

The 06 was stronger than the 05... It also means that the boat more than likely has been sitting for quite a while unless the motor was swapped off of something else since the motors are factory rigged. To have an 05 motor on an 06 boat means that it was a very early production 06 and has been on the lot for a while (considering the 07's have been out for a while now)....

    Re: 201 XL (AB)

The boat is definitely pre-rigged for ERude, but none of the steering, throttle, etc.... is hooked up to the engine. No doubt its been there a while. As long as it is new and with new warranties I think I am interested, but should I expect a better price because of this ?? Or not ? I mean on one hand its new on the other it 2 years old.
BTW for a $1000 premium he offered a 225 Opti.

I would think they'd be cutting one hell of a deal to get it off the lot....

Really? Why's that? I had an '05 and an '06. The '06 seemed no different to me. The only differences in the motors are what program is in the computer. But, if you go in for a check with your '05, they are going to put the latest update in, so I just don't see where you're getting that. IM me if you don't want to post it.

It doesn't necessarily mean it was an early production. Get the serial number and call the factory and they'll tell you when it was built. C&O just got in three 2007 285's that are rigged with new '06 150 H.O. DI motors. These boats were just built. I know they've already sold one of them and the other two won't last long. You can pick them up priced right.
