    285 XL?

I have been looking around for a new boat in the 18-19 foot range. Just wondering what you guys thought about the 285 XL. Dealership nearby has a few with either a 150 Mercury Optimax or a 150 Yamaha VMax. What do yall think?

It is an excellent boat. The changes that were made for '07 are great. It now has the floating consoles like the other Stratos boats and has a larger livewell. I had an '04 and loved it. It fishes much larger than an 18' boat. It handles rough water very well and will run low to mid 60's depending on your load and motor.

Agree with Jason . . . the 285 is a great 18.5ft boat. The changes for '07 really upgraded the looks of the console and topcap. The hull design has been around for years and has proven itself over the test of time. It's a great ride.

If your dealer has the '06 models, they have features we like as well too. Either way, its your call and you'll love the 285.

If money were no object, I'd go with the Opti. It is a DFI engine. On the other hand, the Yamaha is a great motor too. Jason and I run Yammies and we love 'em.

    Good luck! Enjoy the hunt!!!

I have one. Great boat, i have been real happy. Handles rough water well for a boat that size. Very stable fishing platform and you dont need a monster truck to tow it. The yammie drinks gas though
I don't always find schooling fish but when I do I backlash on the first cast

I have a 2004 and love it. I have the 150 Vmax on it and it runs well. Low to mid 60's with a decent load. Like the other guys have said it handles very well. Some of the co-anglers I've had with me can't believe the ride and speed it has for a "small boat". It fits nicely in my garage, I didn't have to take out a mortage to buy it so my wife lets me fish a few more tournys as a result!! I would recommend a jackplate if you decide to get it. It likes the engine up on the transom. Tows easliy also.
