Do you mean a 'safety strap' other than the regular bow strap?

I've never used one/had one. I probably will at some point, just never have.

I use a rubber coated chain. The strap wears after awhile. Difference in price: Bow safety strap $50.00 . Coated Chain $20.00

I use a plain old piece of chain with a clip on the end. I think it cost me more for the clip then the chain.

I have a turn buckle that is rubber coated on both ends. Tighten it down and it helps to hold the bow down on the roller. Works great, been using it for years without any problems. If you do decide to go this way, just remember to loosen it when to get home.

I got a nice piece of chain , ran it through a section of clear vinyl tubing , put heavy clips on the ends , and then put a tie wrap around the narrow section of the clip to keep the clip from rotating on the chain , and to keep it quiet .

    Re: bow buckle (boatmech1)

I went to home depot and bought a 3' section vinyl coated SS wire. If I recall it had a 3500 lb load rating. I bought 2 ss thimbles, 4 clamps and 2 ss caribener type clamps. The kind where you screw the thing open and closed. Anyhow, I cut it to fit and attached the bottom to the eye mounted on the lower part of trailer and hook the top to the bow eye after the winch strap is attached.
