    Mounting Ducer Correctly

I also have posted this on Electrical -Electronics & Trolling Motors with GREAT responce so I figured I would go right to the source of fellow Stratos owners and HOPE that I can get some pictures on where you have mounted your transducers.

First is there what is called a high-speed transducer OR is mine just mounted incorrectly?
What I am looking for is being able to read thew depth when I get up on plain. My Humminbird 727 works just fine.

I was fishing on a friends boat this past weekend and his Lowrance was reading the bottom when we were up on plain.

Is my transducer pictured bellow mounted in the WRONG place
What I did was mount my new ducer were the old one was from the previous owner.
What I have done is take a picture with measurements near it for reference. The edge of it is right at my motor mount even though you can't see the end of the ruler.

    Thank You in advance.

Are you sure your buddies transducer was mounted on the exterior of the transom? Most transducers will clutter and go out after about 30+mph. So you slap it down inside the hull of the boat, Im sure some gurus will clarify

first off it needs to be level not with a ruler but with a level( bubble type) 2) where it is will not work in any speed over 25-35 mph as that part of the boat is out of the water. whomever mounted it for you needs transducer mounting 101. any air will make a trandsucer not work so yours is not the best for it.
there are skimmer and such types but even they will either mess with your water flow to the engine or may get air around them and not work. Take that one you have and get some epoxy and mount it in the hull just before your drain plug. make sure it is good and solid and no air bubbles you can even take a can and put it in first and then do the epoxy and place the ducer in the epoxy to hold it in place. it should then read the bottom at wot. or get a thru the hull model ducer which is made for that . oh dont forget to seal the holes in the back of your boat dont want to hear later of a weak transom from water getting in< >

lkhartwl, All I did was take the old one off and put my need ducer on. I guess the old one was wrong from the start huh
Do you have a picture off the correct placement of the ducer as a referance for me?

    Thanks

I epoxy my transducers in the hull. My boat has a small area where they left it flat just for this purpose.
