    rub rail upkeep

Just thought I would post this for anyone who hasn't considered doing this as part of their off-season maintenance. I noticed a part of rub rail sticking outward so I pulled the rub rail insert out to find a screw a 1/2" out. Seeing this, I decided to pull off the rub rail from the back all the way around to the other side. I kept one side in the cover cap. It took about a half hour to tighten all the cap screws and reinsert the rub rail. The constant pounding of your boat on waves and wakes will loosen these over time. Hope this helps. It's now part of my annual check list.

How hard is it to remove the "rope" for lack of better terms to get to the screws and how hard is it to put back in?

All I did was gently pry it out with a screwdriver... once you get it out of the track, you can pull it out and mine came out pretty easy... I just did about 2 feet at a time working around the boat... Don't overtighten the anchor screws, just snug them up... I used the heel of my palm to pop the "rope" back in... No problems, just took a little time, and you will be suprised at how the rail looks when you are finished

My boats a '93 model and the red strip in the rub rail had faded on one side. So when I discovered the same loose screws last year and took the strip out to tighten them, I flipped the middle strip to the non faded bright red side. Made a difference for sure. Well at least to me anyways.

The best thing I found to do when that happens is to put a small amount of removable lock tight, and you don't have to worry about it anymore

Awesome idea!! When I take the strip out, I will put it back in with the non-faded side out. Thanks.
