    key melting

The rubber around my key where it fits into the ignition looks like it's melting. I'ts gummy and soft. Anyone know what's the problem?

is the key getting hot or is the rubber just getting old? you can buy replacement rubber or just take the old stuff off. theres a key under there.

Also you might have used it after applying sunscreen or bug spray.....that will eat plastic/rubber.

YEP, more than likely something you have had on your hand or got on the key some other way.
