I have a 10-12 inch scratch on the top cap (courtesy of a tall metal dock and some weekend water skiers) I can feel it with my fingernail. Wondering if you guys can suggest a polish or compound or other idea that I could try?

If the scratch is not down into the polyflake, you can buy some clear gel from Ranger and apply a very tiny amount. Cover the wet gel with clear packing tape and let it harden. Then, you can LIGHTLY sand it down. Go to the Ranger Forum and look at the sticky on the top under Maintenance tips. A long time ago, I submitted a copy of the Ranger gelcoat repair instructions pamphlet that was posted there.
"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments

GETFISHED !!!
Try Meguiar's PlastX with a buffing ball on a drill.
These won't fix the scratch but will prevent future ones. I always use them when tying to docks and never a scratch to the glass or rubrail. http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/st...yABEgLHI_D_BwE
