Need to know what other owners are doing to fix the broken screws in the top cap

    I have a 2007 zx250.

I have been dealing with this issue since about month 6th of ownership. Find a bump in the rub rail ...pull rub rail out to find screw backed out but when I remove screw to add a bit of Marine Goop to keep the screw from backing out I find it is broken. So as I start checking left and right of that screw I find several more in the same condition. I talked to Skeeter and their basic answer is to just drill another hole and sink in a new screw. They sent me a bag of 30 screw to "help". Well I have been through that bag and then some. This morning as I was wiping down the boat I noticed another bump in the rail....14 screws broke off I am basically running out of room to add new screws.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so ...what solution did you find to permanently fix this issue??

    Thanks

I have a 2007 ZX200, and have not had that issue. I might consider making an appointment and hauling that sucker to the plant and have them look at it before I replaced those 14 screws. You might have a hull problem with the cap or hull flexing and breaking the screws. I'm not an engineer, but something is moving to break them.

I called Skeeter. I was told that they would do nothing more than what I did...replace the screws.

I've had a couple come loose on my '05 ZX225 but i've not had any snap. Usually i just tighten them back up and that's been it. To have them snap and back out as much as you are something just doesn't sound right.

Are you pounding the tar out of it?

Absolutely not....I am not going to say that I have not been in big water or some rough seas....but when faced with those elements I make it a point to try to get through them as gentle as possible.

Had an 02 once and knocked the top cap loose on texoma after getting caught in bad weather. Skeeter replaced the boat with an 04 that I ran until last year never had any problems but I always had to fix screws that backed out. So with that being it is definately possible there is a problem.

    Re: (ndh78)

Well I want to thank you Texas Larry. Your comment about hauling it to the plant prompted me to contact Skeeter. I wrote them a email detailing the issue and got a call from them yesterday. I am scheduling a date to drop my boat off so they can inspect the stress points to ensure that the boat is handling the load properly and repair anything that is broke due to this issue.

    Thanks

30 days without my boat....who wants to take me fishing??
