    Just changed my prop.

    I'm running a 200 HPDI on my 2007 ZX200. Just changed my prop from a Yamaha 25 T-1, 3 blade to a Trophy Plus 25P, 4 blade.
I'm having trouble getting out of the hole. The motor really labors and it sounds like the prop is slipping. Once out and up it runs great. My first thought is to adjust the engine height on the jackplate. Any opinions? Attached is the current set up I was using for the 3 blade prop.

    Thank you.

I have the same boat and run the same prop you took off. Two people full of gas and livewells full with all of our stuff it jumps out of the hole. top end is slow i have never seen over 68 light or full It runs around 65 most of the time. Why are you chenging props? If I could get mine to run 70 loaded it would be the perfect boat.

With my original set up I was pretty much doing what you are doing.
I changed to the 4 blade because I run big water on Lake Champlain and the 4 blade will stay in the water better. I know i will loose some speed but it's not a big deal to me.

When you go to a 4 blade from a 3 you will generally want to step back 1 pitch to make up for the extra grunt it will take from your motor to spin the extra blade. That is why you are having trouble coming out of the hole, your motor doesn't have the extra "umph" to spin the extra blade. I would try and trade it in for a pitch lower.

How many plugs are in the Trophy prop? Might try removing one or more of them as this will help with holeshot. You still might need to go to a 24p though. Just my $.02

I am pretty sure you cant have the two problems you have at the same time. If the prop is slipping the motor will rev up(this is not laboring)If the motor is bogging down(laboring) and will not rev up then the prop is not slipping and you need it to vent more(remove some plug from the prop or change the size of the vent plugs).

Thanks for the comments. I'll try playing around with the plugs and if that doesn't work I'll go with a 24P.
Skeet'r89 you are right there is no laboring just slipping or reving. Bad wording on my part.

    Thanks again.

Hope you get things figured out. If you want some real good answers go to the props or set up forums.

If you are revving and not getting bite you may need smaller plugs or your motor is too high.

If you do have all plugs, just take 2 plugs out first and try. Sometimes you can damage the plugs trying to take them out. If 2 out doesn't work then take them all out....

Re: Just changed my prop. (MtnDoo)

I have the same boat and engine. I raised my engine to the 7th dot on the jack plate - about 1/2". I'm still running 20 psi water pressure and about 5700 rpm, so I should be able to go a little higher. I'm still running the 25 T1, but I believe I'm going to try a B&B Tempest Plus in the near future. Right now the prop has a little damage on the tips, and I'm running about 65.5 with full tanks. I am interesed in seeing what both props will do after the work.

Re: Just changed my prop. (MtnDoo)

If that is the 3.1 200 you need a blow out ring on it. It will vent to much without one. Talk to Mark on the prop board, he sells an aluminum one that taps on and works great. I tried to run the trophy without it and it would blow out and take forever to get up on pad. Once I added the blow out ring it jumps up on pad.

It is hard to see in this picture but if you look close you can see that it fills the gap between the lower unit and the prop.

It's an VMAX HPDI. I've got some pvs plugs on order I'm going to try those. Right now the 4 that are in there are large so I'll try closing them up and go from there. I will check with Mark and see what he has to say as well.

    Thank you

Hey Ron ...... nice blade crack

MtnDew ....... I searched for a thread I started in the prop section with pictures of Croxton's Cav Ring and could not find it ..... but here are the pictures that i up loaded.

The prop is a Powertech TR04 (basically a Trophy clone) w/Crox' Cav. Ring.

    These pic's are from my TZX 190 w/ 175 HPDI Vmax w/ 24" TR04.

See here how you tap it flush with the prop barrel.

Ring will seat all the way.

How it fills the gap between prop barrel and gearcase.

And how it sits inside gearcase.

    Good Luck.

    That ring is very slick!

    Thanks

Re: Just changed my prop. (MtnDoo)

You need to get it on the water and get some info. You should turn around 3000 rpm getting it on plane, and 5700 - 6000 rpm WOT trimmed out. You should be able to raise your JP. If you are seeing higher rpm trying to come out of the hole, you need smaller plugs, if lower, you need larger or remove some of them. You can raise your JP until performance doesn't improve, or you see a large loss of water pressure at full trim.

Most guys go to one inch less pitch when they go to a 4 blade, but until you get the measurements you really don't know what you are looking at. Once you get that info, let us know or go to the Prop section, and Mark Croxton or one of those guys can help you out. You can get a lot of good information reading the Prop Section threads.
