    evinrude 150 lower unit

    I bought this boat several months ago the man said that the lower unit had just been replaced and it dose look brand new he even had the recipts I checked every thing out on this boat I did not check the lower unit oil. Today I decided to change it pulled the plug out came the thickest smellest oil I think I have ever seen I spent three hours cleaning it out the best I could I changed the oil ran it with the muffs changed it again did I get BS"ed on the lower unit or do I have another problem? also how much end thrust should there be I dont see it in the book? it does seem to work fine.Thanks.

    After the second replacement of fluid did you still get the burnt smell??

    No but I only ran it a few minutes with the muffs I'm going to check and change it again after my next trip to the lake.

    The burned smell usually indicates the unit has experienced some high friction loads at some point. The magnets would tell you if anything is breaking apart inside. It would probably be a good idea to disassemble the unit and check all the internals and see what you have just for peace of mind. The end play should be in the .035-.050 range average, anything more usually indicates wear in the propshaft or reverse gear.

    Dont know much about Evenrudes,but if you have to have a lower unit I may have one for sale.I posted it on this forum.will take 900.00 for it and engine runs.If interested call 662-720-4747 ronnie
