Re: Code 72 - Problem? (Sirius Rich)

    It's a code 97, 2 times, last @ 77 hrs.

The first set of codes you posted appear to be "stored faults". The code then number of times then first hrs then last hours when the fault occurred (i.e code 97, 2 times, first hrs 7:42, last hrs 77:38).

The second set of codes you posted appear to be persistent faults.
The information listed is exactly the same as the first set except the code and number of occurrances are grouped together (i.e. code 97, 2 times, last hrs =77.
Persistent faults only show the hrs when the fault last occurred and do not list first hrs when fault occurred.

Re: Code 72 - Problem? (Sportwin)

You are correct, but what is a code 97, Intermittent switched (B+) detected? I have been experiencing "slow mode" last two out five trips, but my dealer says nothing from the EMM tells him why. Maybe the new plugs will help and it was time anyway. At $12 a pop I sure hope so.

I replaced my plugs today for the first time and learned about indexing them. Never knew about indexing spark plugs.

You can tell I am an old man and fish the north end of Toledo Bend:

Re: Code 72 - Problem? (Sirius Rich)

Code 97 - intermitent switched B+ means there's a loose power connection, for example the purple wire at the key switch carries the B+ (battery voltage) to power accessories (gauges and such in the boat). The key switch is the switch, thus the term "switched B+"...

A typical problem would be the system check gauge repeatedly running thru self test while the engine is running.

As far as why its going into SAFE mode (its not SLOW anymore...), the code 38 would do that. The dealer should contact tech service for assistance if he can't figure out why.

Also, I'm willing to bet your dealers (or your) diagnostic software needs updating, the displayed code 11 info is not correct. The current diagnostic software is v2.3. Code 11 is a TPS fault code. Its not necessarily a bad TPS, but more likely a control cable or linkage related problem. You might experience a no acceleration issue, even though the engine starts and idles normally.

Re: Code 72 - Problem? (John from IL)

Thanks John from IL. Would the Code 97 explain why my tach jumps around at times? Not often, but it will go from 800 to 5000 and back in a heartbeat at times with 800 being correct.

I am going to Sam Rayburn in the morning and if I experience Safe Mode I will take it back to my dealer. The linkage problem could be from his installation of a Hot Foot because he mentioned that may be the cause of the problem of my motor dying in the morning about the time I am idling to the dock to pick up my partner. Runs great the rest of the day.
