Well i can't see where a Hyd. jp would give any better performance than a manual jp. now you can get better handling performance in several areas at once. You can have the best top end performance and better handling performance by moving a hyd. to the best spot for that situation. So what are you trying to accomplish?
real shallow water is where a hydraulic comes in handy. I'd love to have one, but the cost far outweighs the benefits for me
I just put a hydraulic on my zx... I can't believe how sweet it is. Top end? Yes and no. Pound for pound you won't get any faster "EXCEPT" you will be able to adjust for load differences and then you will be faster when say your livewells are full and you can drop it a quarter inch or whatever you need. Now if you go for a modified surface running prop you will be faster for sure. With a fixed plate it's hard to run these as you tend to blow out trying to get on plane but with a hydraulic you get the best of both. I went for an extra inch (13 total) and it handles and jumps out of the hole better. Also with a hydraulic you will love it in rough water. Just drop it all the way and see how well you stick to the water and reduce your bouncing... it's really sweet. I'd hands down recommend it for anyone.
what brand plate are you running?
What's the top speed on your boat?
