need some set-up advice with my '05 TZX200

this weekend was my first real opportunity to get out with the new rig I picked up this winter. I've got a Yamaha HPDI (200 HP) with the manual jackplate. I've got a 25 pitch prop

I could really only push about 62 to 64 MPH out of it before I'd notice that my rpm's were getting too high - 6000 to 6200 rpm!!

My jack plate is currently set so that I've got about 1 3/8" of plate above the outside portion of the plate.

Should I be raising this up a bit?? Switching props?? I seem to be getting out of the hole o.k.

The limiter will be set to 6150 but personally i don't like running that close to it. What sort of water pressure are you getting... it's those two factors which will dictate what you should do.

Regardless If you're turning over 6000 i'd drop it down slightly to bring the rpms down to a max of 5950-6000 or consider a 26p especially considering you think you're hole shot is still good.

Some will say different but i tend to air on the side of caution than run it at 99.9% know what i mean.

Im curious to hear the opinons on this one. I have the same boat, but running a 25M prop and only spinning around 5600 Rpms at 64-65 with a full load and about 3/4 of an inch of the slide showing.

Got the same rig but 06' im running 2 3/8" above outer plate, saw the suggestions on another thread, and getting 20+ on water pressure, was getting more when i was lower, and can run 70ish with full load and full gas. running standard 25 t prop.

I guess I never checked my water pressure, so as soon as I can get out and check it I will. I also referenced that other post that talked about wanting to be 2 3/8" above the outer plate - I guess I'll have to try that as well.

Dumb question, but to adjust the jackplate are there any tricks? I assume that all I have to do is lossen the side bolts and crank up the big one right??

Yep loosen the side bolts and turn the larger bolt in the middle of the j/p. Wrap the handle so you don't scuff the top cap too. You also may need to shake the motor a little as it doesn't always go up or down smoothly. That's how i do it anyway.

Keep measuring to make sure you're going the right way too.

I have same boat and prop, JP sounds about the same and I've run 68.4 mph per GPS.

Re: need some set-up advice with my '05 TZX200 (Newt)

I know mine is a heavily loaded boat. By myself I can get 67.

I want to get a T-1 for it, and raise the plate to see what it might be able to get for me. Anyone with any other ideas?

Right now I dont want to screw with the plate, as I froze my pressure guage this winter and havne't replaced it yet.
