    1996 zx180 jackplate question

    Hello,
    I have a 96 zx 180 which is the same as a 150.

I would like to know what the largest jackplate i could put on before i needed to extend the throttle, steering cables etc....?

Does anyone ever have any problems with going to far back.

boat runs 63-64 w/o jack plate and a 23p temp plus prop.

Just trying to maximize when i put a 24p on to see if i can get 70

    Thank You

    Re: 1996 zx180 jackplate question (redheadmx2)

I have a 1996 zx180 and just purchased a 10 inch jack plate, I will let you know how it all checks out. I am trying to get my skeeter rolling a little faster. I have a six inch plate now with a 4 blade trophy 24 pitch. Think it is the stock prop. (it says skeeter on it and date 1995 on it. I am getting 61 gps at 5900 rpm. Trying to get the rpms down with a bigger prop and pick up some speed. I am thinking of going with a 24 pitch 3 blade tempest. Do you think my Mercury 150 will turn anything bigger than that and still come out of the hole well ? Any thoughts on this ? Thanks for any info!

Re: 1996 zx180 jackplate question (EIEIO)

    UPDATE:

finally installed 6 inch manual CMC and my full load with 2 people is 65 and solo is 67mph GPS speed. Just changed impeller and i should be able to move motor up due to better water pressure. Will keep posted. I may have to go to a 25p since my RPMs are still high with the 24p. Boat has a 175 mercury.

get a tempest plus if you go up in pitch, you can adjust the pvs holes to get better holeshot
