Need help with boat set up

Thought you guys may be able to help me. I have a 1998 skeeter 185sx, I had a 150 yamaha but sold it and replaced it with a 200hp 2003 Merc with 19 hrs on it so it is like new. I am using a 10 " jack plate with a 25" trophy running 70 mph on GPS at 5900 rpm. Boat handles very good, no chime walk and turns very well. My problem is I just bought a 25" tempest because I was told it was faster, Well I am running the same speed but I am at 6300 rpm. Someone said I need to lower the moter on the jackplate because the tempest likes to run deeper in the water. Any input would be very helpfull. Thanks in advanced

Typically 4 blade props are little slower then 3 blade. I think a 26p tempest may have been a better choice. Maybe that 25p has too much slip so dropping the engine 1/2" may help.

+1 on 26 tempest! I run a 26 on my 200merc on a sx 200. Runs 72, rpms are 6000+ right now with this cold weather, actually been lookin for a 27 tempest to turn during the spring. My advise would definately be to get or try a 26 tempest and by the way it does like to run deeper than the Trophy. I was runnin a 26 Trophy and gettin 67-69mph, Changed to the 26tempest and got 69 at the same setting on my 12in slidemaster. Scratched my head abit, fished a while, then dropped the plate only 1/2in, Hit my new high of 72! Gonna drop it another 1/2 in next time i take it out and keep doin it till i lose speed. I know its mindboggling tryn to setup a boat, but if you dont give up it gets better until u decide to get a bigger faster boat to mess with!
