How do you insert more than 1 picture when uploading from the computer?

I dont understand your question? Do you mean the "rays" coming out? That is trolling motor electrical interference

And turn off that box on left of screen

    Monte

    Thanks for the reply.

    Yes, the rays.

Is the box on the left the 2D from theGT52?
That might answer some of the questions I have in the other thread.
No trolling motor in the water at the time.

This is a description of what I was running at the timeof the screen shot that I posted in my other thread. I have 2 threads with basically the same questions because I could not get 2 pics together in the first thread.

Open water, no structure, on Lake Michigan.
1st run with a ps21 while out trolling for salmon.
Saw this image a lot, but would come and go.

PS21 set 1 click down,15 degree I believe, mounted on a stick at bow, with a GT52 on bottom mount of stick.
T8 kicker pushing boat with a 2nd 93sv on helm with a ps30 active on transom.
Shut down the motor and helm unit and just let the boat glide and still had intermittent images like this.

Possible the ps21 transducer picking up the GT52 transmission mounted below it?
Possible the ps21 transducer is physically too close to the GT52?
Closet boat was a mile+ away but maybe other sonar signals?

I pointed the PS21 to the rear to see if the PS30 possibly had any affect, but the bow screen stayed clear and actually picked up the down rigger balls behind the boat.LOL

Ran stock settings, but I tinkered with the forward range a bit with no change in the intermittent near boat artifact.
Odd as it sometimes was strong or weak or none at all.

Are you running a PS21 and if so, could you share the settings you have found for the best results.

As stated above, first time running the PS21 and just dropped it in at the bow while trolling, to see it in action and try to get a little experience with it.

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

A "normal" Panoptix screen is nothing like the good, clean screens we are accustomed to seeing with 2d. Depending on the terrain and nearby structure it can be quite messy at times.

My experience is that a 45 degree angle works best for me. I have no trouble seeing surface activity at this mounting angle.
Have a look at this thread.

45 degrees? So 3 clicks down from straight forward? Will that work in 30' of water or less?

Go to the link above. Those screenshots were on 45 degrees.
The screenshots show on the 2nd page and there's some more on the 3rd page.
The answer is yes. It will work in 30 FOW of less.

I just looked at post #50 in the link you posted and it looks like yours is at 15 degrees down from straight forward. Was that before you moved it to 45

No. That's 45 measured. The GT50 (long xd) and Vexilar (in metal box) are level. The GT8, and Lowrance 200/83 on each side of the PS21 are tilted up from horizontal about 20-25 degrees. I used to measure them but now I just eyeball them to about half the angle of the PS21. I don't have the Lowrance any more. No point. Still use the GT8 though.

I just spend a couple of months fishing shallow water (>30). Practically over now though. I have seen Crappie 120 ft away 5-10 ft deep, but once I know I'm where I want to fish, I usually dial the forward range back to either 60 or 80. 80 if I go for a while without seeing any fish. 60 because I can cast a 1/16 oz jig that far. It really helps me for both the depth and range to be set manually. That way I can react a bit quicker to what I see without having to analyze the screen for how far away they are. I target fish 30 ft away, meaning that I use the trolling motor to get that close. Closer than 20 ft sometimes gets a negative reaction from the fish if I use the trolling motor. 30 is just perfect. It's an easy cast, line control is good and if they swim away I see where they go. Sometimes I can even turn them around by throwing ahead of them if I catch one.

You may be on to something though. For targeting fish at or near the surface you may get better results by tilting it more toward the surface. This year as I start fishing deep I am going to tilt it down some. I noticed last season that fish 80 and 90 ft deep only showed up pink, not red. A little more tilt might give a better return.

I found one click down is good for me as I fish <30'.

    Auto medium and 50-100' distance
