Where to install the Side Imaging Transducer on a SX190 (No Jackplate)

I bought a 798SI and was told by Humminbird to install the transducer just to the right of the engine mount. I am concerned that if the motor is all the way down that it will block the sonar signal. I see all kinds of topics on where to install them on a jackplate but nothing for those of us that don't have one. Any suggestions?

Brad, i have an 05 model and ran into this same problem with my lowrance structure scan. It will be the same for you HB. If my motor is level it will be in the path of the ducer signal so i have to tilt it a little bit when i'm out on the water idling around. Hopefully these pics will help you out.

To make sure the ducer cleared the sposons, i took some ribbon and ran it across the width of the boat which in turn gave me the area where the ducer needed to be.

For ducer installation, i bought some marine lumber (plastic board) and made a couple 3"x3" pieces. Glued 2 pieces together (1" thick total) and glued it to the hull. To make sure it stayed together i screwed the two peices together then screwed the ducer to the block. Reason for all of this was i didn't want to drill holes in the hull and maybe in the future i'll get a jackplate and will mount the ducer to it.

You can mount to the transom next to the motor. You need to make sure the transducer is below the sponsons and also might have to trim motor get clearance. If you look in the Photos on the SI Group under the "Installation: Transducer" Album there are images that show how others have mounted without a jackplate to protect the transducer by having a higher on transom location. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sideimaging/

    Doug-

Where would we all be without your help on here?!! Fishin Coullin, great pictures, thanks. I was hoping to take some stainless and build an "L" bracket coming off the lower right hand motor mount bolt. Looking at it with the pictures you sent over it may not work. I was hoping not to drill any holes in the hull of my boat. Thanks!!!!!

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by bradg4780 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> I was hoping not to drill any holes in the hull of my boat.</TD></TR></TABLE> Brad, mine is not screwed to the boat. The two pieces of blocks (1/2" a piece) are screwed together to make it 1" total thickness. Then i took it and siliconed it to the transome. Then took some shorter screws for the ducer bracket. There is not on screw in the transom on that ducer setup. I also thought about the L bracket coming from the bolt on the motor mount but decided not to.

Have you had any problems with the block coming loose? I really like what you done.

Nope. It's been on since november and is pretty sturdy. I did have concerns about that but after the silicone cured all the way it doesn't move. In fact I can push down on the ducer to adjust the level and don't budge. Now I'm not saying it wouldnt come off if you hit a stump or something. I used duct tape to keep it in place while the silicone cured. I'm satisfied with it until I get a jackplate put on the boat.
