    play in steering wheel

I can take steering wheel in my hands and move it up , down and sideways (1/4 inch). I do not have any play if I pull on it, except for the other movements. Lock nut is tight. Is there other bolts inside steering column I can tighten? I haven't been able to get steering wheel off yet, tried wheel puller, to take a look at how it works. It almost seems its loose all the way to the steering wheel adjustment lever. anyhelp would be appreciated. Dealer 65 miles away.

    Thanks!

The boat is a 2003 ZX 250. You might be right it may need the dealer to replace the whole column. I would think that would cost me a arm and a leg.

DO you have tilt steering? Check the tension of the joint. You can pull back the accordian rubber and see the joint and see if it's in there. I had one I had to tighten a hair to reduce play.

Doug: I pulled the rubber back and got a good look. It appears everything is tight. . The gear ratchet for the adjustable steering had no movement. When I move the steering wheel back and forth the play seems to be inside the alumium housing, nothing I can see on the outside moves, except on the inside.

I have a Triton that did that afterit was about 3 mths old and I took it to the dealer and Triton where they said nothing wrong, Then they fixed it (after several trips in the shop) 2 weeks later it locked up.... so get it checked
