I see that BRP has released some "commercial" outboards for 2008. Anyone have an idea what this is supposed to mean? I am thinking it is just "marketing" on their part, but it never hurts to ask the experts...

I heard the only difference is w/p kit & motor cover styling.and you can get 22.5 shaft lenght & tiller handle.
In a motor a friend had, he told me that it had lower gearing to the prop, a speed limiter, and something different about the carbs, compression and spark plugs.
In a nutshell, that particular commercial engine was set up to idle for long periods of time and push a lot of weight around, but not for the fast run-and-gun style of most fishermen/boaters.
It ran freely, but did not have the top speed that other engines of it's HP had, and I believe he still has it, and it's still running strong.
This is from memory, so feel free to ignore the above.

hmmm....interesting. Sounds like my kind of engine. I don't really need to go anywhere faster than trolling speed. Unless of course the reef is breaking and I need the speed to get out or in!!!

From what I understand the commercial engines are more tolerant to varying fuel grades that are found around the world. They are also manual tilt which I believe is a big mistake. The 65hp commercial is also rope start. I am guessing these are for fishing guides, and others that are in remote parts of the world that need just the basic's to keep going.
