    Skeeter ZX225 speed

I am a fairly new Skeeter owner and this past weekend when I took the boat out, I went to take off and as soon as it goes to get on plane it starts bouncing so bad I have to let off of it. So I tried it again and floored it and stayed in it until I got to about 40 or so and let off and it did fine. Is the motor not set right or is it just me not knowing how to drive the boat yet? I had the dealer set the jackplate on it when he drove it and he had it to 72 gps and said it had some more. How fast can I expect out of this boat? It is a 2005 ZX225 with a 225 yamaha hpdi, 12 inch Bobs machine shop Flats Jac with 2 inch spacers, 25 T1 prop, low water pick up(not sure if that matters).

    Thanks
    Nathan

First thing, make sure your motor is trimmed all the way down. I had a 06 ZX225, It would run 76mph w me only in it, right at 6000 rpm.

You have to trim all the way down then start trimming up once you build up speed. You should be able to trim up all the way and then tap down 2-3 times to get the best out of it. Don't forget to trim down when slowing down too otherwise you'll start to bounce as you describe.

I've got an 05 ZX225 and my top speed is 70.9 mph with a T1-27P @ 5500rpm it's also got a few dings that i'm sure is costing me about 3mph or so.

I'll be getting a TXP 26P over the winter and getting my 27 reworked.

    Re: (SkeeterJohn)

yeah sorry I didn't mention that I have it trimmed all the way down when taking off. This is my first skeeter and I had a javelin before and I could give it gas when taking off and come on plane without having to push the hotfoot to the floor. I was just curious if the jackplate setting would cause it to do this? Also when I moved the jackplate up about a 1/4 inch the prop wanted to blow out. Is there anyways to fix this or do I have to move it back down. I had it up to 66-67 gps today and was trimmed out with 25 psi. I was told I need a minimum of 15lbs psi at WOT. I feel if I could raise the jackplate up and be able to take off without blowing the prop out that I could get some more speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

maybe some JP wedges will get him the negative trim he needs to not "bounce", and allow him to raise the motor more??? I guess it would depend on if there is trim left when timmed out at WOT

first thing i would do is to make sure you do have a 12 inch plate with 2 inch spacers. if that is true, take the 2 inch spacers off.

agreed, too far back and the motor is trying too hard keep the boat out of the water. The bouncing (porpoising) is caused by the motor "loosing its grip" check it the explanation here

    Re: (-BjBnet-)

    Hey,

Just bought the same boat, and have suffered the same problems. Here's what I found. Measure your propshaft to pad. Mine was set at 1" below pad and it blew out bad coming onto plane. I lowered it to 2" below pad and put on a spare 27 T1 (I am getting my 25 T1 worked). I ran it hard this weekend on good water and got a consistent 74.6 GPS @ 5850 RPM. I am pretty happy with these numbers, but when I get the 25 T1 back, I will probably drop the jackplate another 1/4" to 1/2" to keep the RPMs under 6000 (I want it to last). These boats just like to have the motor down in the water, but the low water on the newer Yamahas will allow you to jack them as high as you dare.

    Re: Skeeter ZX225 speed (Bnathanb1982)

I have an older version of the same boat. I have a 2001 ZX225 with a 225 v-max OX66 motor. I will get 74.4 mph GPS with myself and 2 full tanks of gas (52 gallons). Haven't tested it with less gas. Throw in my partner and all our tournament gear and I can still hit 70.1. I have the Yamaha V-Max 27 prop. You must have something setup wrong because my boat is the smoothest riding boat I've been in (been in Rangers, Champions, Stratos).
