tach is bouncing all over the place, doing about 30 mph reads 7000 bring it to 50 55 tach is off the chart. is it just going bad or what ?

Tachs do fail, but it is also possible that the engine charging system has a slight problem. An outboard tach uses the output pulses from the alternator.

its just started, nothing has been worked on, bought boat last oct. brand new it was a leftover, only has about 25hrs
