    trolling motor install

I have a 1988 skeeter SF 150 XF . When I got it, it didn't have a trolling motor on it . I just bought a used 71 lbs motorguide for it and i'm wondering how to wire it up. The boat has 3 wires going into the plug but the trolling motor only has 2 red and black.. any help would be grateful. Jamey This is a 24v motor

You only need 2 wires. Go with the red and black on the boat wiring and leave the other one unhooked. At your batteries, hook the red from the boat to the positive post of battery #1, then hook the black from the boat to the negative post of battery #2, now you will need a jumper wire to go from negative post of battery #1 to the positive post of battery #2. This will give you 24 volts and will run your trolling motor correctly. Make sure that you have a circuit breaker on the red wire from the boat that is hooked to the positive post of battery #1.
