Would you buy a Team boat

I am searching for a newer boat to replace my 97 Skeeter (once I get it sold). I have seen a pretty decent deal on a 2006 ZX250 Team Boat. So my question is...in general are team boats a pretty good buy in terms of condition, motor, etc? This one has under 120 hrs on it and appears to have been well maintained. Any gotchas to watch out for?

Team boats should always be good buys. The team boats have large discounts off dealer cost and as long as the seller is looking at passing that on you will get a good deal. Most get used as much as regular tournament anglers.

I think it is a great way to get a like new boat with the worse year of depreciation (the first year) already deducted.

Like anything else though, it helps to know who you're buying from and how they took care of it. Every boat owner is different but I found that the team guys do try to maintain a good reputation as they are trying to sell their boats every year. The less than concientious ones will have boats will tell tale signs of abuse.

Remember, these boats are only a year or two old. They should look immaculate. I know of two 1 year old 20i's that look as good as they did when they were new - these are the types you should be looking for. Dealer laptop should disclose how the engine was used. Good luck.

I just did!!!! The guy I bought mine from is very meticulous and he took very good care of it. Now I just have to wait till the weather clears up and go pick it up!

like all used boats, you have to do your homework, but because most pro's know what they are doing in terms of maintenance, the boats are usually good.

I did not say a "Pro Boat", I was talking about a team boat. I personally would not buy a pro boat, nor would I suggest it to anyone. Your talking a whole different ball game there.

Re: Would you buy a Team boat (Matt Plapp)

I was going to point out that same distinction Matt.

Here's a story of a guy who bought one off of Iconneli, and he was supposed to be a personal friend too.

    http://www.bbcboards.net...57174

Team guys have to buy their boats with thier own money, they have to treat them as their own boats because they ARE.

I bought mine from a team guy in Oklahoma. I had everything checked out on it, the boat was and still is in mint condition. I paid about 4k less than what others where asking for the same model and year. I got a 5 year warranty with the engine also. I would buy from him again in a heartbeat.

I know two team guys in my area and I wouldnt hesitate to buy a boat from them. They represent Skeeter well and keep their boats in perfect condition. They each have ZX225 for sale now. If I only had the money.

I know a team guy who I would not buy a boat from. Based on what I have seen and heard about him. Not a Skeeter team guy.

I bought my 2004 ZX250 from a Team member. I got to order the colors i wanted and the options i wanted. I gave him a deposit and he ordered it. He fished out of it until September and then i bought it. I got a huge discount by doing it that way.

do you think that is the reason why your vinyl on the seats seem so weak? I have seen you mention that before. You wonder if the previous owner was stepping all over the seats or if fishing partner was stepping all over them.

I realize you said everything else is in great shape. We have some pretty big bass circuits here in MN, probablly nothing like you guys have in some of the other southern states but I would take my 97 ZX185 any day of the week over some of those newer boats, just about every one of them has been beat up, carpet filthy, seats in bad shape, scratches all over. Windshields cracked from trying to get into culverts etc. NOT GOOD!

I do not have one scratch on my rig yet, when I do I will be absolutely pissed at myself!!

I am referring to tag007, he has mentioned before that his seats have tears and the vinyl is poor on them.

    mnbassmanstwin,

We should compare Skeeters and see who can find the first scratch...

I remember putting the first scratch in my old skeeter, I sounded like Judge Smells from Caddy Shack when Rodney dropped the anchor on his yacht.

Re: Would you buy a Team boat (mnbassmanstwin)

I bought mine 1yr old used from a local skeeter team pro. He said it had about 30-40hrs on it. He's well know here in the metro. I didn't check the bottom of the hull until about a month later. At the time it was hidden by the trailer. Found some nicks and chips I know for sure I didn't do. The top is in very good shape.

Re: Would you buy a Team boat (ricqik)

ricqic,Have you fished any other tourny's on Green near spicer? I have fished a few of them, I am mainly a weekend angler so I do not fish the huge tourneys like the silverado or anything. I fish two of the smaller ones every year. My bro and I usually do not win, BUT I do not make a idiot of myself either when we take in the fish. Really it is just is a dang good time fishing for the day. It is just fun competing.I live 20 minutes away from Green in Spicer so I fish the lake pretty much from May untile October. Nice smallies out there.Hey, send me a pic of your boat, I would like to see it. my e-mail is as follows jeffrey@aplusinsuranceagency.com

Re: Would you buy a Team boat (mnbassmanstwin)

    SKEETZX225,
I can tell you who's boat would have a scratch spotted between all 3 of us! It would be mine, and my idiot brother did it!
If I had chipped his rear spontoon like he did to mine, he would be crying for a week.....every weekend out he would say " Does my boat still look ok?"
other than the chip the size of a dime on the rear spontoon mine looks great, but it ticks me off that he did it and not me!
Good thing my boat is white, and you really can't see it.

sorry bro!! man, I thought I said that a few times the day I did it. Maybe I did out of reflex because I had a Astro 20 footer at the time and not a skeeter, hmmmm, maybe I did it to make myself feel better!

Re: Would you buy a Team boat (mnbassmanstwin)

I've never been that far but have fished green lake in chisago, real good bass lake. I only fish around the metro. I've fished the Minntonka classic that is on the second weekend of bass opener though. Never place in the money but it's fun. Here's a pic of my boat being tow by my bro's truck.
