1995 ZX 300

I have finally found a boat that I like. A ZX 300 with a 225 HO mariner. I am going to get the compression checked and the lower unit pressure tested this week.
Are there any other checks that need to be done on this boat? The boat is a 2nd owner boat always in the same family, motor has never been rebuilt or anything like that.

In all your excitement Don't forget to inspect the trailer.Tires and tire wear.leaf springs.
maybe jack it up and try to wiggle the tires.(indictive of bad bearings?) Obvious rust spots?Winch strap and winch.Maybe pull a tire to inspect brake shoe?You pull it and see if it takes off smoothly.if it's sluggish means brake lines need bleeding.Make sure the brake actuator is in good working order.Make sure it has trailer tires not auto tires,make sure all the lights are operating.When you get the boat off the trailer check all the welds

Is the ZX 300 a good hull? The owner says it will GPS 70 mph. It rides real good.

Have the owner take you out and see if it'll do 70 mph, you gonna real quick. boat is rated for a 300 and almost 23 ' long. I wouldn't buy it thinking it will run that speed. One of the best riding boat built.

I thought the flagship skeeter back in 1995 was the zx 200,,,never heard of a 95 zx 300

It is a 1995 skeeter 300 ZX with a 225 Mariner super magnum on it. It is 21 feet long I did measure it. It is rated up to 260 hp 6 persons 900 lbs. The dealer says it is the same thing as a 225 Pro Max motor. It is a big boat just did fit in the garage.

A friend of mine looked at the boat today and said that it looks great. He was concerned about the motor said the he would be afraid of the high preformance motor because friend of his had problems out of a pro max just like it. I post on the mercury board and the guys over there said it was a good motor. Does anyone on here have a motor similar to this one on a skeeter? If so has anyone had any problems with it?

Hey fisherman,,that is probably a good motor,,there are just a few things to remember,, You will have to run HIGH octane fuel in it. My brother had a 98 21xd bullet with a 98 Mariner 225 super mag on it and he found that out the hard way. He was buying what he thought was 92 octane pump gas,,,,,after a detonation in the no. 2 cylinder,,,a huge hole in the piston,,it hammered the rings up into the heads......anyway Reynolds perfomance marine did a octane test on it and he was actually running about 84 octane,,,,,way too low for that hp motor. 10k later he has to buy fuel from the airport to mix with the pump gas to make sure its high enough octane for that particular motor. Anyway to make a long story short,,,he traded that boat for a triton with a 225 merc efi. No problems like that anymore. I dont want to scare you off but every little bit of info helps,,,,,,Im sure you can check with the mercury guys and they will tell you the same thing. Good luck

I have a 96 300 ZX with a Merc EFI 225 on the back and it has GPS'd over 70 before. Great boat, smooth ride and great fishability. You will enjoy the boat...best of luck!!
