Overheated my 150 Faststrike, I think?

model # J150GLEOM, Ser. # G03857655 95 275 Stratos Took off the other by putting over a sand bar. 3 of us in the boat, ran for 15-20 minutes at 5500-5700 rpm on a 23 renegade. Motor starts to cut out like its missing a full bank or something. NO Alarm Buzzer!!! So I'm thinking powerhead, powerpack, new block, all the bad stuff. Fished for 3 hours and decided to try it going back. Jumped on plane, so I limped it home at 4000 RPM's and it never missed a lick. I then notice no water "peeing" from the little hole, though I never lost any water pressure on the guage. Brought home and took the the little plug out and its packed with sand and muck. Blew it all out and ran it on the ears and it seems to be fine. Okay, my question's are: 1. I checked my service manual about how to check the buzzer. Is this the first thing to do? 2. Are there any other things to check like compression or any other parts that could be affected.

    Check the alarms and compression.
