    150 Performance

I have a 1986 150XP Evinrude. Model # E150STLCD SER # J1310927 . I have just finished restoring the Champion that it is on. When I ran it the tach. did not work I diagnosed it as a rectifier as it is not charging either. After running it , it will not get on plane. Will the rectifier affect the performance or should I be looking somewhere else?
    Thank You Don

Did the rectifier fix your tach? Do you have spark on all cylinders? Did the boat plane before you did the motor work? Have you removed the motor from the boat and put it back on? Need more information to help....

Nope is shouldn't but,,did you pull off the flywheel to change the VR/Rec? You about have to to replace it, did you remember the key in the crankshaft? Spark on all cylinders? Throttle plates opening fully at WOT?

Have not replaced the rectifier yet. The motor was lifted to install 6" jackplate. Motor set 3.5" below pad with 24 Turbo. I have spark on all cyl. compression cold is 85-90 on all cyl. The boat was in storage for about 5 yrs. before I bought it and restored boat. Flushed fuel & Oil tanks and refilled. runs great on muffs , starts easy , sounds strong. When I stand on the hot foot it just loads like im trying to push a 5000 pond boat.
    Thanks don

Was the motor stored with fuel in it?

If so, I would suggest you look inside the carbs.

When you replace the rectifier, inspect the flywheel for loose magnets, if some are all are loose, they can be secured again with BRP'S flywheel repair kit. There are many more things to check if the flywheel is ok. One step at a time.

    Re: 150 Performance (DoferGofer)

I just removed the flywheel and I have 2 loose magnets. Will this cause my rectifier not to charge or put out a tach. signal? How will this effect performance?
    Thanks Don

I can not find part # for repair kit . Can someone come up with it ?

Melvin is on the right track with the magnets. My 85 GT was the same way.

The stator died on my 85 as well..... Must be a common problem....
