Usually the case...
I'd still consider team boats. The guys that mistreat their boats usually develop a reputation as such. You can usually tell abuse if you look closely enough. The abusive owners don't seem to do a very good job of hiding their work very well.
I guess that guy doesn't care about resell on his boat or that tournament was worth enough to pay for fixing it. I sell my boat each year and I could never get away with tearing a boat up like on purpose. I hate it when I put a little tiny dock scratch in it.I take care of my boat to the best of my ability maybe more because I know I have to resale each year. I don't think I could ever sell a boat that was intially damaged. It's hard enough to build a reputation as a honest seller. Bad news travels fast in this industry. Also I rely on my boat to get me to and back from every event - If you mistreat your boat you may not make it back. I think most prostaff - go above and beyond to take extra care as they rely on the product and have to sell each year or two. But like anything a few bad eggs makes us all look bad.

This popped up a month or so ago in the general discussion area. What a lot of you arn't realizing is there are two types of boat owners. Those who consider a boat a tool for catching fish, and those who don't. If you did a little research, you would find that he is fishing for $100,000 and he actually ended up making $12,300 in that tournament alone. I don't know about you guys, but for that kind of money, I am going to do whatever I can (legally) to get to fish. By looking at the results from that tournament, it was tough, and if he had some fish he felt confident about in that area, I see no problem with what he did.
He's not worried about having a pretty boat to sell down the line, he is worried about getting to the fish that could potentially buy him 3 brand new boats. If anything, I think it shows how determined he was and how confident in the spot he was.
Was that even his boat? If that was the All American, he probably got a tourney boat to fish out of that wasn't his. Either way, I give him props for going through that much effort to get to his hole... Thank god we don't have to do that out west very often.
The catch fish at all costs is what wrong in this sport, money makes people do stupid things, Ike,Swindle and many more.. He may not have been driving out of control but he easily could have flipped the boat and partner could have been injured, he did not but that doesnt take away from the actions..Bass/FLW are 1 lawsuit away from curtailing these types of actions by anglers, Swindle learned the hard way. If this was the classic and the camera boat was viewing this would Trip Weldon DQ'ed him?

Wasn't even his boat. Was fishing the BFL All-American, boats, gas, whole nine yards provided..
I think there is a diffrence between a Local "Pro's" team boat, a true "Pro's" boat, and a Tournament boat( ie All-American, FLW,B.A.S.S.). Most local Team guys buy there boats from a dealer at a price usually lower than dealer cost... These guys must sell there boats at the end of the year in hopes to break even. Most of these boats are "over" maintained because the guys know they will loose money at time of resale if the boats are not in excellent shape. A True Pro's boat is usually bought by the Pro at a minimum cost or given to them as a form of payment. These guys are fishing for a living, so the boat is simply a tool for them to make the're livelyhood. A boat that was used for professional competioton days like on the FlW tour, is probably going to be the most abused, since really no one has an obligation to care for them. I don't think that there is anything wrong with buying any of these three types of boats,, except the price should be reflected by the conditon of the unit. At the same token if you buy a well used boat at 10 to 20 thousand less than a new rigg, then don't expect it to be a "NEW RIGG" Just my 2 cents![]()
