Anyone with factory installed stereo that use the Satellite radio?

What extra parts did you need to buy? I know you have to get the SIR-CL3M unit, but did you have to buy a separate antenna too? Were these difficult to install? I do have a GPS puck already on the boat, does that make a difference? Please advise, Thanks for the help!

Re: Anyone with factory installed stereo that use t ... (DNBigDog)

I installed one in mine this spring. I bought the SIR-CL3 new on ebay for about $90. It comes with a small antenna. The installation only took about 10 to 15 minutes. Is your stereo mounted under the daybox? My stereo is in mounted in a carpet covered box under the daybox tray. I removed the screws that hold that box in place and the screws that hold the back wall in the starboard rod locker. I was then able to push the antenna wire through the wiring hole under the drivers console and reach it from the rod locker and pull it through. The only other cable plugs into back of your stereo. I mounted the antenna on the right side of the drivers console and secured it with marine silicone. Then just screw the back rod locker wall and stereo box back into place and screw down the SIR-CL3 box. The receiver was a little bit too tall to mount on top of the stereo box without hitting the daybox tray, so I mounted mine on the back wall of the rod locker. It has mounting brackets and screws included. The final step is to call Sirius and activate the receiver. Make sure you are not under a roof or tree so you can get a clear signal.

Hey, thanks a ton! Yep, it sounds like you have the same setup as me. I didnt know the SIR-CL3 came with an antenna, over at westmarine.com it says it requires a separate antenna. Your install instructions will definitely come in handy, thanks again.

blwall, do you have to remove the day box to change channels on the stereo or is it remote control?

I believe the remote will run the satellite from the cockpit.

It came factory installed with a wired remote near the ignition switch. The remote controls power, volume, mode (CD, Sat, FM, AM), and changing preset channels. Once you select your favorite channels for the presets, the only reason to access the stereo under the daybox is if you want to change CDs. Mine stays on a few preset Sirius channels most of the time.

Of course my radio isn't sat ready. I had to buy a new set up minus the head unit. I just take it out of the truck. For the antenna, i put a few drops of silicone under it and mounted it on the back. Now the GPS antenna is by the console so no interference. Don't think it would have any if they were close by but then you might check it out before you mount it.

Would you guys mind posting pictures of of your stereo setup? I've been wanting to put on in my zx250 and would be interested in seeing how you guys did it.

I guess if you get the SIR-CL3m it does NOT come with an antenna, the SIR-CL3 DOES. I dont know why these pieces are so scarce. And why does the manual list the CL3m is needed when both will work? I will try and remember to take some pictures when I do the install today. I know there are some pictures of the factory installed stereo here somewhere...

here you go, the factory installed stereo..you can see the controls by the ignition and the stereo in the daybox (what we have) http://www.boatboys.com/skeeter25420ib.htm

BLwall, the hole under the drivers console, is that the one in my pictures? It would seem if I used that hole, I would wind up above the daybox, in which I would have to drill a hole down through the top of the box, under the lid. Is this what you did? I drew a red line where I think the antenna wire would have to go, is this right?? Thanks, I really appreciate all your help.

I didn't run it thru that hole. Look at the top right corner of your first picture. That cluster of wires goes into a much larger hole with a plastic ring to protect the wires. Just grab the antenna wire somewhere in the middle and push a few feet of it into that hole.
You do not need to drill any holes. It will enter the rod box in the corner behind your stereo, on the same path as the wires to your stereo. If I remember corectly, there are 3 screws holding your stereo box in place and 4 holding the little wall between the rodlocker and console in place. Once you remove those it is all very clear and you can reach in and pull the anteana wire to the stereo.
Oh, don't try to take the back wall totally out of the rod locker. Just unscrew it and let it lay there on the bottom of the locker. The little courtesy light in it will have enough slack to lay it down but not enough slack to take it out of the locker.

You're a lifesaver...one LAST question! Did mounting your antenna next to the console prohibit any reception at all? And you secured it just by silicone, no screws?

I didn't want any holes in my console, so I just ran a bead of marine grade silicone around the bottom on the antenna and pressed it down into place. It will set up pretty quickly and should hold in place well.
I haven't had any problems with reception. Of course it cuts out if I dock under a boat house roof, but no problems while fishing or while running the boat.
If my boat actually fit in my garage, I would take a picture of the antenna, but it is in a rental shed and I'm too lazy to go take a pic tonight. There is a seam on the right side of your console where the console joins the piece that runs along your right side when sitting in the driver's seat. I squeezed the wire into that seam to help hold it tight and out of the way and stuck the antenna about 4" to 6" away from that edge. I also smeared a little silicone over the wire to help prevent snagging it.

I see you have yellow consoles also. What colors are your hull and stripes? Have you posted any pictures of the whole boat here yet?

bl, I am very interested in the set-up you have for your stereo. Can you tell me what make and model the unit is and the remote console unit as well if it is different? Also, for some reason I never get the pictures you guys post so could you email me a couple pictures (jpeg if possible) of your set-up including Sirius connections.

    Thanks, John
